Rings,watches,belts,TSA?

My friend flies that same route a few times a year and always has to remove his belt, his watch, loose change in his pockets, cell phone, etc. He usually carries any extra baggie for all the little items.

After many years, I have finally convinced my DH and to put everything in his pockets in a side pocket of our carryon luggage. Not only is this one less set of items to pick up ( or forget to pick up) after security but it is also much less visible to other passengers before you pick it up.

Other than laptops and netbooks, no other electronics need to be removed from you bag and placed separately on the belt. Even laptops and netbooks need not be removed from the case if it is a TSA friendly case, which includes something as common as a laptop sleeve, as long as you don't stuff the cords into the sleeve.

Just plan well and use the time while waiting in line to prepare for the screening and you should not have any problems. Best of luck -- Suzanne

You can leave your jewelry on. I've never had a problem going through with my belt and metal buckle. Along with Camcorders and Laptops, portable DVD players also have to be taken out of their case and put through separately. You will also need to remove your shoes to go through security as well.

Cell phones and cameras can be kept in your carry on for screening.

Just a point about shoes. If there is a medical reason, diabetis, orthopedic shoes or similar, you do not need to endanger yourself by taking youe shoes off. Just let the person on the WTMD know you have a medical reason. Then they will do an explosive swab on your shoes.

We have always had to put our cell phones in the totes, along with shoes and laptop. My cousin even has to run her wooden cane through the scanner. They have an extra one she uses.

>>> use the time while waiting in line

I find it too awkward to reposition things in pockets and suitcases with nowhere to put things down for a moment, also holding my overcoat and shoes, all the while remaining standing and inching myself and the suitcases forward simultaneously as the line moves. Too much multitasking and not enough hands.

Now I'm kinda worried. I've never flown before and we are flying from BWI to MCO. I have one ring that I can't get off (gained some weight since I got it) I tried every way possible to get it off. Do you think I'm going to have a problem. I mean I would cut it off if I had to but I don't want to.

Relax, worst case senario if the ring sets off the Metal detector explain to the TSA agent that you can't get the ring off, they will want to wand you then, but only if the ring sets off the metal detector.

Good to know thanks.

As long as it is gold or platinum you shouldn't have a problem at all. Silver *might* set it off, however. Generally the machines are set so that precious metals such as gold or platinum won't ding unless the quantity is unusually large.

What I do is seed ALL of our carryon baggage with gallon ziploc bags in the outer pockets. Before we get into the security line we pause against the wall and put anything that might ding, including shoes and coats, into our carryons. We like to live dangerously, so we just walk through the checkpoint barefoot. ;)

(Yep, I even do it for business travel. It's SO much less hassle to not have to deal with shoes while going through.)
