Hi. Has anyone have this problem? DD13 has it, we have gone to an Ear Specialist and was told- "Very common and nothing can be done."Well its so bad that she can't stand been in a quiet room, at night she has ear phones on to get to sleep. Just got a call from the pharmasist and he just did a small search and it could be a lack of zink. She is going on a 4 day trip with school to Ottawa in a couple of weeks and we want something done. HELP :confused3 please.

There was something about a new development in the treatment of tinnitus on tv in the UK recently. There is a new device which finds the frequency of the buzzing/ whistling etc and replicates it through headphones. Strangely enough this seems to give relief for a few hours at first and then the treatment is to use it in regular sessions. It appears that the period of relief gets longer and longer with treatments being needed less and less. I have searched online for details from the programme's website but have had no joy, I'm afraid. Other than saying that it was a wee black box with headphones, I can give no further details, sorry. :confused3 Maybe if you describe the treatment to the specialist he may be able to find info. I'll continue to search though and will advise if anything turns up.

What kind of ear specialist did she see? Was it an ENT? Did they do a hearing test? Ringing in the ear is a VERY common sign of hearing loss. I would take her somewhere else for a second opinion. There are some surgeries that can be done and some medications that can be taken but they aren't always successful.

I would love to know the answer. I hear this sound as well in a dead quiet room. I get to sleep okay--but if I am having an insomniac moment--that ring bugs the sleep right out of me and drives me bonkers.

I have it all the time. My hearing aids mask the sound some. It is there all the time you just can't hear it when there is noise in the room. Like I said before, get your hearing checked. Most people with ringing in their ears have some hearing loss.

Sort of a bump post for the OP, she posted a second post on this and I am guessing that she can't find this one.

It is funny you mention hearing loss--it is VERY subtle...but I do hear less in one ear than the other. Never noticed it before---it was a very recent thing that for a while I was blaming on telephones--until one day I switched the phone to the other ear and I could hear better.
