Planning on proposing to the girlfriend at Magic Kingdom this Sunday. Any ideas on how to get the engagement ring through the metal detectors without her becoming suspicious? Also, At what shops can we get the happily ever after buttons?

The engagement ring shouldn't set off metal detectors. Either put it in your bag without her seeing it or pocket it and don't empty that one.

If it's in a box, make sure it's not metal, most are not. If by chance it is, transfer the ring to small felt bag, etc.

you can get the button at any shop you might have to ask also if you are staying on site the hotel have them

you can bring your own sharpies to write on it if you would like, but put a pice of tape on the writing other wise it will come off, any store will have tape to do this.

I always have rings, necklaces, earrings and watch on and they never set off metal detectors.

Congratulations Simba111. May your trip be filled with many magical memories and pixie dust galore

We just did this in November. I held the ring for my daughter's boyfriend and tried to linger behind the group in case I had to empty my pockets. The ring did not set off the detector. You'll be fine. They did it in front of a photo pass photographer and got TONS of professional pictures as well as free bride and groom ears.
Congrats.

Watch all the people going through the metal detectors with rings on, who are NOT setting off the alarms, and you'll realize you're overthinking this. :)

Don't do the proposal over water or near ducks, just in case someone drops it.

You guys are all assuming the ring is gold and not some cheaper metal ;)

Congrats!

Thank you once again to all for the welcome, the warm wishes and congratulatory remarks along with the first hand suggestions. I suppose I am just a tad worried getting through the security check with a ring box in my pocket in fear of the metal detector going off and the surprise being foiled before we hit main street. Thank you for easing my fears.

Congratulations!

I left my gold wedding band and stainless steel cross necklace on when I went through the metal detectors, and did not set them off. You should be good to go with it in your pocket.

Remember, thousands of people go through every day with their wedding rings on and don't set off alarms.

I used to work a metal detector (at a courthouse). Real gold will not set off metal detectors. Depending on what it is made of and how much is physically there, some costume jewelry will set it off. I had a woman learn the ugly truth about the "fancy jewelry" her loved one had given her when I had to have her take off her necklaces and wrist bangles to get through after her just hearing me tell the person ahead of her that there was no need to take off gold jewelry.
