Right or Wrong?

I don't think stealing is the same thing as telling a white lie. One thing can get you arrested, the other, not so much. Stealing is a crime, telling a lie is not. Going by your philosophy, there would be no such thing as prisons, as we all do something wrong at one point.

I'm not a judge, so I don't judge. But, I'm not saying that we don't need them. I don't judge anyone, but I do believe that people should be punished for certain crimes. This topic is not one of those. If I saw it, I wouldn't care because that is between her and her God and/or her and Disney. Since she's not putting anyone in danger, I would just mind my business. And the whole "that is tacky" statement.....So what? I bet the people that made that comment have been tacky in some form or another and they probably have not been perfect parents either. I believe that certain things should be addressed, just not this one.

its not trying to justify wrong behaviour, its looking at everyones situation, I was just giving an example of what my mom did in a certain situation, was she wrong for what she did, you bet it was, she stole, would I do this, if I had no food to feed my kids I would do it in a hearbeat. It is easy to pass judgement on people when you are never in a situation, people might be amazed at what they would do if they felt like they had no other choice. I guess this is off topic but I do still feel we judge people so harshly on these boards, there are so many bad things people do in this world, we shouldn't sweat the small stuff.

It's tacky to fill up a baggie from a buffet, no matter what anyone's economic situation is. Yes I know lots of people do it, whatever. Will anybody get arrested for it? No. Would I encourage folks on the boards to do it? No.

Is it classy to call someone else tacky, or is that tacky also?
Romans 2:1 You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse!

Disney is not a right, Chef Mickey's is not a right.

If you are in a position where you have to steal food in order to feed your children, you're completely out of your mind to even consider a trip to Disney or a $30 a person buffet, I'm sorry, that should not be where your money is going. Also, I doubt anyone who truly is in that situation would be on a trip to Disney or at such an expensive meal, so it's pretty reaching to justify the behavior like that.

It's not as if we're talking about someone stealing food from a grocery store or market, we're talking about someone already paying $30 a person for ONE meal and stealing the food there. I really hope someone who has starving children wouldn't pay for something so ridiculously overpriced as that.

Some one who can pay for a $$ 30 meal has no "legal reason" to take anything from a buffet. Obviously they are not poor. Disney is no charity institution that is there to hand out free food. If you go there you have to accept there rules, the same way I would expect my guests to accept mine.

Exactly.

Disney is not a cheap place by any means, and I'd assume that even the most inexpensive trip you could possibly plan there would be far too much for a family to afford that cannot even put food on the table. This may sound cold, but I have no sympathy for someone who on one hand claims that their children go hungry but on the other is paying for such an expensive buffet. $30 at a grocery store goes much, much further then $30 per person at a buffet.

I completely agree. It's a really, really long reach. Putting food from the buffet in a ziploc bag is completely wrong.

I'm curious as to how the OP could see exactly what and how much was being taken from the buffet 'for later' - tables are not usually that close to the buffet tables and tables are not usually so close together so that you can see exactly what your neighbour is doing.

On that topic we once asked a Club Level Cast Member what happens to the foods on in the Club Level lounges that the guests don't eat. Well we were surprised to hear it all gets thrown out and we said why doesn't WDW give it to a food bank or something. Well they told us that is something which WDW once did, however it turns out someone eating these left over foods got sick and the food bank sued WDW. So because of that WDW has stopped giving left over food to the various food banks, which I can assume also included left overs from their buffets. So while it may seem tacky taking a few extra Cookies and etc from the buffets, I would rather see guests doing that then seeing good food being thrown away.

Having worked in the food service industry, I know this to be true and for that exact reason. To me, the enormous waste of food is far more sad than pocketing a few cookies at a buffet.

There is the letter of the law and there is the spirit of the law.

No one else knows this woman's situation. She is the only one that can accurately weigh the morality of what she did. I tend to believe that most people do what is fair. Rules are a wonderful guideline, but there can be valid reasons for breaking them.

As a society, I wish more people cared about doing what was morally right than following the letter of the law. Did you read about this recent game show in Europe? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/features/7488732/Would-you-torture-this-man.html

When will people learn to think for themselves? And when will society try to stop making everyone conform to the same standards, especially when everybody is different?

I'm curious, if everyone believed they were above the rules and took extra food just because it was getting thrown away, where do you draw the line? Knowing how people react to price increases at the already expensive buffets, would you still be okay with this if enough people felt it was necessary for their personal situation and as a result the prices were raised?

Disney prices may be extremely high, but that is the margin they choose to have, and if the demand for food increases because of people taking home extra, you bet the prices will increase right along with that.

It all depends on where and to whom you are telling that lie to. Courts of law do not take kindly to those that lie.
