Right or Wrong?

If it isn't wrong, then In THEORY (and given time) those people could walk out with every last bit of food in the buffet line.

Doesn't matter what her economic situation is, it's still tacky.

Not buying the whole "they're for the children" bit either, she probably ate some of them herself.

I think everyone knows it is not acceptable. Funny thing is, very often we have paid for our meal at a character buffet and the server has come over and asked DD if she would like to grab some fruit and a cookie to take with for later. I interpreted that as an apple/banana. My point is though, there is etiquette involved, even in a theme park. I would imagine though that someone doing this without trying to hide it genuinely doesn't know they are doing anything wrong.

Besides, if you want to carry around food in your backpack all day in the warm sun, help yourself. Personally I would prefer food that hasn't been sweating in a ziploc in the heat.

If someone's economic situation is that bad that they need to sneak food from a buffet, they probably shouldn't be eating at a $30 a person buffet anyways. Then they could put the leftover money to all those cookies they desperately needed ;).

Sorry, the whole "be nice, you never know someone else's problems" has a limit, sometimes tacky is just that, tacky.

I have to go with tacky/wrong, as well. But as another poster stated, for the price that Disney charges for that mediocre bordering on nasty and unsanitary buffet, what's a few cookies and krispy treats. Yes, it's tacky, but let's face it, dollar for dollar, we're the ones getting robbed!

It's wrong. But, so is speeding, lying (even little white ones), and so many more things that everyone in this thread does on a daily basis. We ALL do something wrong. I am not perfect, so I will not judge.

I don't think stealing is the same thing as telling a white lie. One thing can get you arrested, the other, not so much. Stealing is a crime, telling a lie is not. Going by your philosophy, there would be no such thing as prisons, as we all do something wrong at one point.

Nobody is forced to book a $30 Disney buffet so I don't get the "we're getting robbed" argument.

I think taking food from a buffet is a whole new definition for staying on Concierge Level :lmao:

No we would not take even a tiny bit. In fact if I tried this my husband would be on his way to the airport right away :thumbsup2

Since you already selected the food, then it would be thrown away.
On that topic we once asked a Club Level Cast Member what happens to the foods on in the Club Level lounges that the guests don't eat. Well we were surprised to hear it all gets thrown out and we said why doesn't WDW give it to a food bank or something. Well they told us that is something which WDW once did, however it turns out someone eating these left over foods got sick and the food bank sued WDW. So because of that WDW has stopped giving left over food to the various food banks, which I can assume also included left overs from their buffets. So while it may seem tacky taking a few extra Cookies and etc from the buffets, I would rather see guests doing that then seeing good food being thrown away.

There are six of us in my family, and when the four of us were younger we went to Chef Mickey's. My mom tried to instill in us that we could have dessert as long as we ate our meal food first. Well, the four of us got so full, we didn't even go up for dessert. The waitress came by with a box, and mentioned that she'd seen how we all did a good job, so we could take one dessert for later if we wanted to. (And of course the four of us grinned like the Cheshire Cat at Mom, who nodded, and got our cookie, rice krispie, etc.)

That said, we would never do that without being given permission, and I don't think my mom would ever ask. (My Gram is notorious for doing using baggies at buffets, and actually was banned from one for doing so, not at Disney.)

I think its very wrong, but I have to admit, my wealthy grandmother (who was born in 1895 and lived through the depression), used to take every sweet and low packet and any extra bread at the table, wrap them up in napkins and put them in her purse (picture Sophia from Golden Girls). We all told her we would buy her some, but we laughed anyway! Were these people old? Sometimes its just how you were raised.

While stealing is a crime her actions would first have to be identified as theft by the victim of the crime. In this case I don't think Disney would care to see it that way.

I don't know the answer to this because I have never looked but is there any communication from Disney dining that limits what you can take to what you can eat while in the dining room?

I just think that we probably put more time into caring about these things than Disney does!

I find a question like this so hard, do I agree with it, I really don't know. Some of us can afford to take our kids to disney every year and some for a once in a lifetime trip, that mother could just be "cheap" or she could have saved for many years to do this trip with her kids, does it make it right if she is poor? probably not but if it means her kids get a treat before bed or nothing at all then I won't judge. I grew up in Ireland very very poor, there were 4 in my family and my mom who was single, she was an amazing parent but money was very very scarce, I can remember my mom going without food for 2-3 days so us kids could eat and when the money ran out before the end of the month I can remember her stealing food to feed us, was it wrong? you bet it was but she did what she had to, am I a bad person because of it, no because circumstances are different for me now and I know my mom did what she had to, it didn't "teach" us bad things. We really don't know everyones story and we are so quick to judge. If its not hurting anyone, who cares. Is it any worse than a person eating so much at the buffet that they feel sick because they want to get their moneys worth. I sat beside a table at chef mickeys last August where the mother was making the kids eat plate after plate of food because she told them "I want to get my moneys worth", I would rather see a family take home some cookies etc.. for later then to teach your kids to eat until they are sick.

It's tacky to fill up a baggie from a buffet, no matter what anyone's economic situation is. Yes I know lots of people do it, whatever. Will anybody get arrested for it? No. Would I encourage folks on the boards to do it? No.

I don't mean to pass judgement on anyone but it amazes me how people justify wrong behavior.

That reminds me - we were the among the last ones dining at a buffet on vacation. The server did tell us that everything was headed for the garbage and asked if she could wrap something up for us for breakfast... since we were offered, we accepted a fruity desert and a few rolls. Of course, that is only because there was no one else left to serve. They also asked staff if they wanted to take a box home as well, which many did. I do hate so see food go to waste - but not enough to smuggle it out in my pants leg! ;)
