Last time we were at wdw we were eating at chef mickeys and the family next to us went up to the buffet and grabbed about 6 or 7 chocolate chip cookies and a few rice crispy treats and a few oreos and put them into zip locks and the mother looked over and said its for the room for snacks at night for the kids. Do you think it is right or wrong to take some food from buffets for snacks? Some people have theory they have paid for it and some always think they have plenty but those chocolate chip cookies are like $2 in the bakeries...what do ya think

I know our local buffets make you pay extra to take food out of the restaurant, and they don't want you sneaking food out either.

I'd imagine its probably no different at Disney. I'd say its wrong, the price you pay for the buffet is for all-you-can-eat while you're there at the buffet, not all-you-can-eat plus whatever you can sneak out with you and take back to your resort.

I have to say I think it is wrong. You are paying for whatever you can eat at that time, not for late night snacks or snacks for the next day.

Of course it is WRONG. Some people don't care what kind of example they show to their kids.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

I think it is wrong too. I will admit that one time while having dinner at a buffett I put too many macroons on my plate. My eyes were bigger than my stomach. Well I was so full and the macroons were too good! So, the 2 that were left on my plate, I wrapped up in a paper napkin and put them in my purse for later.:scared1:

Now I would never fill up a baggie with snacks for later.

Yes it's wrong and tacky. All you can eat is all you can eat while at rest. as above poster said. Deep down the lady/ anyone who does this knows it was. :sad2::sad2:

Tacky. Taking a couple of cookies or a piece of fruit or something I dont care about, but loading up a ziploc from the buffet is tacky. Don't really care if it's for the kids or not.

Wrong! To deliberately take the food with the intention of storing it for snacks is wrong.

When we are at a buffet I refuse to let the kids have their snacks/deserts until after they eat a good meal. And then they are limited to 2 or 3. Sometimes I'll allow them to go back for seconds.

Once in a while we end up with 1 or 2 desert items (ie, macroon, cookie) that they truly just cannot finish. When that happens I'll explain what happened to our waitress and ask her if they can wrap them in a napkin for later. I can't recall ever being turned down, but we always ask.

And sometimes I'll tell the kids too bad, they should have realized they were to full before taking the item. And refuse to ask the waitress about bringing it home. After all, I don't want them to get the idea they can do this on purpose to bring extra dessert home for later! You know kids ;)

There is nothing wrong with this. Since you already selected the food, then it would be thrown away. If you took an ice cream cone to go and walked out the door while eating it, I don't think that is that big of a deal either. When someone starts packing meals/ deserts for later meals, then they crossed the line.

Out of all the immoral, rude, and generally annoying things people do in WDW, I think this is probably the least immoral (although probably the most rude/annoying). I don't see myself doing it.

Sure, it's cheap. Really cheap. And tacky. Really tacky. Wrong? I guess, maybe. :confused3

What do you think Chef Mickey's would do with leftover cookies at the end of the day? Probably throw them away, right? At least this way they are getting eaten.

In my opinion this is wrong but since a thread like this is generally mean to start a good dialogue, I'll take a shot at it. . . While I think it's wrong and I would never do it, I would also say that I am in am lucky enough to be in a position not to have to. Neither the OP or I have any understanding of the position the woman or her family is in.

Is this the only trip to WDW they have taken and they didn't realize that a $0.59 cookie costs $3+ at WDW?

Does a bag full of snacks from the buffet line mean a little more enjoyment for her family that day that otherwise they couldn't afford?

Does it mean a slightly more peaceful wait for her family (and maybe mine) while in line for TSM when there are no FP's left?

I am sure that Disney throws out more food in about 10 minutes than that guest put in her bag for her family to eat later in the day. While her plans might be outside of my ethical decision making and yours her actions are really a matter between her and Disney. . . so I'm staying out of it and will not judge.

Now let's move on to a more stimulating conversation about refills on resort mugs outside of the resort where you are staying! ; ):rotfl2:

Sorry. . .I couldn't resist!

I would never fill up a baggie full of stuff but I have taken their banana, yogurt etc... B/c the kids were to excited to eat while we were there b/c of the characters and I know the sec we walk out the door they will be asking for something to eat.

YES refillable mugs and what do we recommend for picky eaters is another one that has never been addressed. :rotfl: couldn't resist either

I don't think it is right. I also don't know that I would really care what others are doing. I agree with the poster about not knowing her situation. I am not sure that it is anymore wrong then the fact that Disney charges what 30 dollars for this buffet with mediocre food just because they can. Maybe her kids did not eat and she does not want to pay for another meal in an hour. We were at Pappasitos the other night and my kids did not eat so we asked for a togo box and the waitress brought us fresh tortillas and chips and salsa. We did not ask but it was really nice.

It's wrong. But, so is speeding, lying (even little white ones), and so many more things that everyone in this thread does on a daily basis. We ALL do something wrong. I am not perfect, so I will not judge.

Last year when we went to chef mickey's, dh said, "you did bring your big purse right?" We were joking. I would never bring stuff from the buffet for later. It is all you can eat at that time, not all you can eat, and fit in your purse. I would be so embarassed doing sneaking food out! I guess my motto is, "if you have to sneak it, it is wrong!". Now I am sure disney wouldn't say anything to the person taking the cookies, but if you went to Golden Corral, or a Chinese buffet, I am sure they would say something!

You must live close to me. (Houston) I love pappasitos, I even worked there for 6 years of my life!!! I could really go for their chips and salsa right now:) Anyway people asked for chips and salsa togo all the time, my boss didn't care as long as it was one serving otherwise we had to charge for it. If the people had a lot of food left, I would just bring them some chips and salsa to go. (if they were nice to me:)) One time this lady asked for 10 pounds of chips, and 3 gallons of salsa, and was outraged that we charged her for it!:confused3 She ended up not taking the chips and salsa.

I am going with wrong as well. The only think I would ever get to go from a buffet is an cookie or ice cream cone to eat as I walk out the door. I also think if you get one 1 small plate for a child and they eat 2 bites of the 3 chicken nuggets and leave the rest ...I think it is ok to wrap the remaining nugget or two for for them to eat 15 minutes later when they are starving. But I certainly would not load back up a plate to go! I did that only once when dd fell asleep in the car on the way to eat, and woke up 10 minutes later in a horrible mood. She was all out of sorts, which was pretty clear. I just asked the server if it would be ok for us to wrap up 2.5 un-eaten nuggets to go. The server told me to take it and that she said that she wouldn't even charge dd, but that did not seem fair, so we paid for her meal and she ate the nuggets in the car.

My travel agent sends out a "disney tips" sheet to her clients. It says that Disney allows you to take a rice krispie treat or apple for later.

I don't know if she got it straight from the Disney Mouth, so to speak, or not.

It did not say "You may fill up an entire bag from the buffet - go ahead, dump it in your purse".
