Right on schedule ugh

Hopefully NJ has a great rain-free summer so that all those benny bucks keep pouring into your communities. Those dollars support your stores (food vendors, gift shops, bars and restaurants) and many beaches charge an entry fee which goes directly to the community. As a resident of New York City, I am always happy to see and welcome all the tourists from all over the world that come into my city and support the business owners and the economy of the city.
I'm in a town in between major "shore" towns. While I see your point about the "benny bucks", it's not so much true in my town. We get the traffic, but less of the benefit.

Sweet, I go to LBI all year long, I get it. I'm not trying to argue with you, I take exception to the OP calling me a stinkbug. ;)
I don't think the OP directed it at you. You know you're not one of the rude, obnoxious, entitled ones that come in. You have respect for the area and the people. Unfortunately, not everyone does.

Look at Seaside and Belmar -- so many problems in the summer that aren't there in the winter. There was just a stabbing in Seaside over the weekend. None of those involved were locals. Not to say there's no crime in the off-season, but it increases in the summer.

Some people (and this goes for everywhere) just have no respect.

I can see your point. Actually, I completely understand because my father has been a full time resident of Avon for the last 25 years, his house was my summer house when I was a child. My Dad is actually happy when the summer comes because the town comes alive. Being the way his town is structured (no real draw for people besides the beach), he does not have to deal with the problems that other areas deal with. I am sure other areas can have things get quite out of control, which would of course cause resentment towards non residents.

It's all about the almight dollar. And anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves. As much as you might not enjoy our presence, you couldn't maintain your towns for the rest of the year without the summer influx. And if it's a problem, you locals need to take it up with your local government. Get your ordinances changed. There are many towns that don't have the problems others like Seaside and Belmar have. And maybe Seaside shouldn't have sold out to "Jersey Shore" if they were worried about the type of people having that show would draw. You know what, it's all about the benjamins!

I work in NYC. I know about tourists. Standing on the escalator instead of moving to one side. Walking 3-4 abreast on a sidewalk during rush hour. Stopping in midstride to check their maps. Annoying? Hell Yes! But you know what. I remember back to the week after 9/11 and how I worried about NYC and how I thought NO ONE would EVER want to visit here again. And it made my sad for this beautiful City. I'm grateful every single day that the tourists came back in record numbers. Are some of them obnoxious? Yep! Are they annoying sometimes? Yep! And you know what? I wouldn't trade it for anything. It is the heartbeat of this City and I hope it stays that way forever.

Seaside was nasty before "Jersey Shore"

We used to call it Sleaze Side. I grew up in a beach town but don't live there now. We would take the kids to Point when they were young, but only before Memorial Day! We also have "Local Summer" (thanks Carl and Marty from 95.9 The Rat) in September!:rotfl:

I used to go to Point when Beacon Beach was still there. It's houses now. :(

Love The Rat!!

I laugh at the folks who moved south and now call the north jersey folks who go down the shore "bennies"...

News flash you only own your home... not the ocean/beach or roads...

and i agree the "Stinkbug" comparison is over the top...

I have the opportunity to go back to LBI this summer--but it is over 4th of July weekend! Ack!! But "Grease" is playing at the Surflight--but it is 4th of July weekend. I could show my DD where I went to school and my old house--but...

Ugh, what to do, what to do?! I guess I'd be a Tenny instead of a Benny. ;)

Do you have somewhere to stay or would you have to try to find a room somewhere? Might be a neat experience for your daughter.

"Grease" is at the Surflight from June 22 to July 15. You don't HAVE to come July 4th weekend, unless, of course, that's the only time you have available.

By the way, July 4th weekend isn't really any more crowded than any other weekend in July or August. Yes, it will be a madhouse, but every weekend is.

Come back to your roots, Tenny!!

Seaside was nasty before "Jersey Shore" -- that just was the icing on the cake.

Seaside Heights is still known as Sleaze Side. Yes, it's nasty, but that's the attraction for the people who like it.

September is God's reward to the locals for putting up with the bennys and shoobies during June, July, and August.
