Hi. :wave2:
Should you wear trainers or walking sandals at Disney in August?

:yay: :cool1: :cheer2:

Sandals-I love my Merrills. This will mark the 7th summer in a row for these sandals. At the end of the day, my legs and feet don't hurt. The sandals are black- I'm hoping to find a brown pair too.

Bring more than one pair of shoes! That way when one pair gives you blisters you can wear the other pair! Or, if you get one pair soaked in the rain or something, you'll still have a dry pair back at the hotel.

Sandals. My feet get too hot otherwise!

Peppermint Cooling Gel from The Body Shop. Takes your feet from hotter than the sun, down to 'ahhh' in a matter of seconds. And is dry about 5 seconds after that. I LOVE IT!

I always take 2 or 3 pairs of Birkenstock sandals, one of them old so that I can slip into them if (when) it rains...I can't stand my feet to be in "shoes" when it's hot!!! :upsidedow

The best advice I rec'd was to wear good quality sneakers that have been broken in and 100% cotton socks. A friend of ours went this past fall and gave her daughter new sneakers...the first day the child had blisters. It really made the rest of their trip miserable. Another great piece of advice...get 'body glide' and put it on your feet and any where else you may experience chafing or rubbing. (you can purchase in a store like REI warehouse.) It worked great. :thumbsup2 I always bring a first aid/medicine kit...just in case.

Sandals for me but I bring a couple for a change for my feet and in case one pair gets really soaked from the rain.

I have NEVER had any luck with sneakers. When I switched to sandals, no more blisters.

LOVE my Teva pretty rugged in leather.

My absolute best advice: Each foot is different. What works for one, will not work for another. Trial and error. Go and try on the shoes suggested here and see for yourself if they will work for you.

But in August with the heat and rain, I can't imagine wearing anything but sandals.

They really do make some GREAT walking sandals that do have great support.

Good luck!

Birkenstocks are the best shoes for walking around WDW. Tennis shoes are good too, but bring an extra pair of socks for when they get wet on Kali River Rapids or Splash Mountain.

I take a really worn in pair of sneakers and I have a WDW dedicated pair of ugly nike sandles that are made of a thin rubber sole and the toe strap section has no buckle and the part that goes around the ankle has a velcro strap. It is covered with a bathing suit material so it dries quickly. I'm sure I have many miles on those sandles.

The "Best" shoe to use is subjective. However, in my experience ( as well as many others on here) i would say buy yourself some crocs (www.crocs.com or go to Dillards to get them; about $30 bux). Those are BY FAR THE MOST COMFORABLE SHOES I'VE EVER WORN!!!!!!!!!!!

Usually my wife experiences some fatigue with the amount of walking we do at WDW. On our last trip we used the crocs and neither of us ONCE complained about our feet in 5 days. They are truly amazing shoes. They even protected my foot when someone in an ECV who should NOT have been using it ran over my foot and then proceeded to backup over it?#$#$@!.OOOUUUUUCCCCCH. My croc was seriously maimed, but it did protect my foot and i didn't get one scratch on my foot or toes. I've got pics of the incident but never got around to posting them up.

As with other shoes mentioned in this thread, you do not need to worry about socks with the crocs. You can carry an extra pair in your backpack or what-have-you, but they're really not needed....especially this time of the year.

I've worn my Birkenstocks there a couple times they're real comfy but I was constantly thinking they would falll of on the faster rides.....My New Balances are the best for a long day at disney!!!!!

Question about the Crocs, do they stay on your feet? I tried on a pair of "generics" at a shoe store in the mall and the length of my feet fit but width wise I was swimming in them and there was no way the strap was even close to my heal, is this the case with Crocs or was it because I tried on "generics"? :confused3

I don't know about the generics. I just got a pair of crocs from a dis member who didn't like them. Well, I have been wearing them around since Wednesday & I LOVE them!! They are so light & squishy. I was a tad put off at the style...think they are kinda ugly, but I am SO OVER THAT. I think they will become my favorite shoes. Period. I am a sandal addict. Really, anything that I can just slip on...like crocs or flip flops.

Crocs rock (so far, lol) and I think that I will wear them all day, everyday at the parks!

Anyone got any inexpensive suggestions for flat, wide feet? I've always worn sneakers to WDW and always gotten blisters on my tired, achy, and hot feet by lunchtime. Sandals just don't seem to have enough support for me. And I really don't see how people can wear those thin/flimsy flip-flops in the parks, or heels for that matter!

DH and I have each had foot issues on our trips. Finally, on our last trip, we made it through the entire trip without blisters or plantar faciatis pain. We always wear sneakers or walking shoes as sandles do not seem to provide enough support. This trip, we proactively put small pieces of mole skin on those areas (side of big toe, side of pinky toe) where we know we most often get blisters. Then, we coated our feet with Body Glide. We followed that up with double layer anti-blister socks by WrightSock (they were not too hot and were really quite comfy). I sometimes put Spenco 3/4 length arch supports in my sneakers and that seems to help prevent a recurrence of plantar faciatis pain. Good luck finding the combination that works for you.

I use the Spenco inserts too! I can't believe what a difference they make, as I, too, suffer from plantar faciatis.
