Ok we have a Craftsman LT2000 lawn mower. I went to start ti today and it won't start at first it would click and make a grinding sound when I went to start it but now it won't do that. I figure it may be the battery but I'm sure it is in need of other routine maintenance stuff as well.
Any ideas on how much this stuff can cost and maybe an idea on whether or not its the battery or could be something else?
Also where do you buy the stuff for this? Is there a mower mechanic? LOL Can you tell I am totally clueless?
TIA,
Charity
I have been working on our Murray Select riding lawn mower for the last couple of days and have the prices right here.
Battery--$19.00 at
Walmart (with this if you bring in the old battery they don't charge the $9.00 core fee)
Tire--$20.00 at Walmart
Spark plugs--$12.00 at Advanced Auto Parts ( E3 brand--got 2 of them)
I also bought oil,oil filter, oil filter wrench(needed an odd size) and a bottle of oil spill cleaner (

) for $26. I don't have that receipt handy or I'd break it down for you.
As for if it's the battery or not...Here's some stuff to help you figure it out.
Clean the battery terminals. Tighten the cables. If this doesn't work you can take it to be tested.
Replace the fuse.
Remove the spark plug(s). Move the throttle to the SLOW position.
Turn the ignition key to the ON position. Try to start the engine several times. Install the spark plug.
Replace the spark plug.
Check the wiring harness for damage or a loose connection.
Repair the damaged wire.
Adjust the carburetor.
Drain the fuel tank. Clean the fuel line. Replace the fuel filter.
I tried to put it in order from easy and cheap to hard.
Craftsman should have a list of authorized service repair shops in your area---Here we take them to small engine repair shops.
I hope this helps!
