Hi
We are thinking about bringing our bikes on our next trip. (hopefully Jan). Just wondering how many people did both and how much they actually rode their bikes vs using the golf cart to get to the buses and boat?

thanks

For us, we only use the bikes for fun, not as transportation, unless I'm just making a quick run down to the Registration Outpost or something. As someone else pointed out to me, biking sounds fun getting to the buses and boats, but you might be waaaaay to tired to ride them back after a long day in the parks. And you might have too much to carry.

When we have a golf car, that's a great option for the boats, but we're too cheap to get one very often. I usually only get a golf car for a day we're going to be in the campground, so we usually aren't headed to the buses and boats those days anyway. It seems crazy to me to pay that much money for a golf car to sit in the parking lot all day. Now if I had my own golf car, it would be a different story!

We usually just use the campground transportation. We haven't had any real trouble with it yet!

We have a golf cart and STILL bring our bikes. Don't get me wrong we use the golf cart alot, however my six year old can spend hours riding his bike around the loop over and over and over. . . Also the trail to Wilderness Lodge is a great bike ride!

We brought our bikes and also rented the golf cart. So far, our son has only ridden his bike once. I think we may use our bikes when we spend the day in the campground (I know, that's the opposite of what most people do). We use the golf cart to go to the buses and boat. Personally, I would rather not have the golf cart for the entire stay, because of the cost, but hubby and the kids like it. I think riding the bikes would be great, except for riding them after dark.

We take both and use our bikes where carts are not permitted. But between the two I like the cart but we did bikes for years.

Thanks for the replies. I will plan on bikes and the golf cart. I was thinking I could eliminate the golf cart because of the cost. But I know we will be tired after the parks. And we can use the bikes for around the fort.

i have never rented a golf cart. we have always taken and rode our bikes for the most part. family members have rented a cart, so one has always available.

this year, we bought one just before we went down. we took our bikes and the cart. hardly used the bikes.

We have done both when we have had both seemed like the cart got used more after a long day in the park we loved being able to jump in a cart and relax but depends on your budget if you can afford one you will use it but if not its not the end of the world its a convience yeah its fun and makes it faster but not something you need plus it depends on your level of fitness and williness to walk after a long day of already walking countless miles

For me, I would do bikes over cart. I understand what people are saying about being tired, but the Fort is so flat, you could get a few good pedals in and then coast for a while. Also, if family needs convincing, think of how much more you could spend on food and/or souvenirs with the extra $47 per day. When I was young, we rode bikes and I loved it.

We always take our bikes and use them. Even after a day at the parks we enjoy the ride back to our campsite. it is usually quiet and a nice way to unwind. No matter where our site has been the ride is never very long. But remember, it gets dark early. We have head lights and blinking tail lights for both of our bikes. no matter what you decide, have fun!! patsy

We're outdoorsy people so for us bike riding is never a problem. Also we NEVER have a problem parking our bikes or getting around the campground with them. I've noticed countless times how everyone gets blocked in at the boat area or the HDD show. That would really make me upset to come back and find out that we can't leave until we find who blocked us in. Also we can go on the back trails with our bikes not on golf carts though. There are a lot of little secret places you can get into on a bike vs. GC.

We have never rented a cart and never will. Biking is the way for us.

We don't do both, but we always bring our bikes. We use them for transportation and for fun. We spend most of our time in the parks, so we could never justify a golf cart.

We do both. We use the cart for looping, coming back from the parks, early morning nature calls, trips to TE to refill our mugs (kinda hard to tote those mugs while riding a bike). We use the bikes for exercise on our non-park days and for going to the Wilderness Lodge.

For folks who are concerned about transporting stuff, I sometimes commute to work on my bike and love, love, love my milk crate. It is way old school and my other bike commuting friends make fun of me - however they don't make fun when I bring in decorated birthday cakes or other goodies to the office... Covered coffee works just fine with a small bungee cord to keep it upright.

If you want to set one up on your bike, just add a rear rack (mine is the one that came with our Rhode Gear seat for DS when he was small) and attach your milk crate with zip ties. The zip ties are nice because they are secure but temporary. So I'll take my crate off when we drive down to the Fort and just put it back on when we get there. :thumbsup2

My bike is set up the same way. I needed away to haul a cooler full of beer around with me :thumbsup2. But I still love looping in my cart.

I love the milk crate idea. We were just talking about how we would attach a "basket".
