Ridiculous Free Spirit rules!

I just signed up for Free Spirit for myself - Spirit's new mileage program - and I kept having a problem with my hubby's and daughter's accounts. After spending 30 mins. on hold with Spirit to be told they couldn't help because it was all Internet based, the agent was able to tell me that all passengers must sign their accounts up with separate email addresses - huh? She said it was for security reasons, but I honestly think it's for marketing reasons, since Northwest allows us to have the same email address, but you have different user id's and membership numbers, so there is no problem. Can you imagine a large family with 2 parents and 3 or 4 kids - how does Spirit expect them to keep track of 7 different email addresses? The agent told me to use Hotmail, but that's really ridiculous, IMHO. My hubby and I have several email addresses, but we are not going to use our work addresses as this will surely bring in spam, and we are on secure servers.

Just wanted to let others know so that they don't have the same problems as we did.

I don't understand your complaint. In fact, I have never heard of any type of membership program where each member doesn't need his or her own email address.

If you honestly cannot remember 7 email addresses and it's too much trouble to write them down (although how do you remember 7 FF numbers without writing them down?), pick something you can remember for each person - Thing1@hotmail, Thing2, Thing3, etc.

This makes me crazy also!! Jet Blue is the same way. I have me, dh and 3 kids. A little crazy to have all seperate email addresses. I never had to do this Continental or Delta.

Then you obviously don't get out much.

My family is DS, DH, and myself. All CO, USAir, DL, SW milage account and Marriott and Fairmont statements all come to one e-mail address. Mine. To require seperate e-mails is ridiculous--particularly if they are for kids.

It is annoying, I have a 1yo, 2yo and 5yo it's really silly that they need their own email address.

Northwest Airlines Frequent Flyer plan doesn't require a separate e-mail address. My son and I share the same e-mail account. We get separate e-mails sent to the same account.

Exactly my point! Everyone else allows one email address, but according to Spirit this isn't "secure" enough. It's because of marketing, you can be darn sure of that! This way, they send emails to all addresses listed. No one else requires this and I have a ton of travel accounts set up for rental cars, hotels and airlines.
