There is another reason the Canada cruise might be be popular, the first 2 days of the cruise are jewish holidays and the schools might be closed I know they are in NYC so if parents pull their kids out of school it is for 3 days and not a full week
I'm afraid I have to disagree that Disney's pricing is going to catch up with them, or cause any ill effect... interspersed in this same thread are people noting that other cruises are filling up so fast, prices are jumping higher. The demand is there, so the prices go higher. Right or wrong -- not defending them. Just don't think it's going to change.
I really don't see what you're seeing. Yes there's a few cruises sell out, but most do not. A lot of people book opening day and the price goes up, but usually at some point the cruise will stop selling. I think a good indicator will be how the European cruises next Summer. They priced those super high and it doesn't look like their selling.
That makes sense. Again, there's still a planning/fiscal thought process going on there. And what else can you do? Like you said, you'd miss out, otherwise. (I wish I'd gotten in on the Lilly for Target thing, because some of the clothes looked really cute, but I missed that boat entirely. Ah well.)
I'm cynical, though, and I think lots of consumers are driven by a "It's popular I must get it and have it now!" mentality, and not the kind where they make a smart decision about it later. The scarcer something seems, the more people will feel they have to get it NOW or they won't be able to later. And there are a lot of people buying up Disney cruises, so I'm just saying, I don't see the upwards-price-trend ending.

I totally agree with you. Hype generates hype. That's a fact. I don't see the upwards-price-trend subsiding either. They're selling it. When they reach the point of not making money on the current business model they'll change. But from a business perspective, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Just look at Disney's stock. For all the things I dislike that they do, for all the things that annoy me, for all the changes they make that I turn my nose at, you just can't argue with the numbers. You can't. Taking business doings personally is a total no-win. So I book what I book. I know what I am and am not willing to pay. When I don't feel right I don't do it. Disney cruises aren't the only cruises. Disney destinations aren't the only destinations. We like them (obviously) but they aren't where the world begins and ends.I know if I feel I'm getting a good value I enjoy something that much more. I hope everyone finds that right balance and finds their happy in spite of these Disney disappointments.
Hey, don't give up on the Target Lilly! We got home from our WBPC Friday. I went to my local Target for the first time in over 2 weeks just yesterday. Low & behold there was a rack with the blue shift dress in about 6 different sizes. I was able to pick up another of the dresses I didn't get initially without getting up crazy early, outrunning the chicks behind me, overpaying on eBay, or even breaking a sweat at all. It was downright leisurely! So keep looking! I think the 14 day return policy is seeing stock coming back around.
I agree with you. I just don't see cruises selling as fast as some people claim. I guess the future will tell if people will keep paying. It really depends on economy. Things are good right Now but history always repeats itself.I don't have a horse in this race, honestly. I just think that the cruises in general sell just fine -- some sell out, some are at least full to capacity by the time they sail -- and people are still signing up to take Disney cruises. As long as that's going on, they're not going to cut prices. If certain unique cruises don't sell, more likely they'd cut back on those cruises. I just really don't see a scenario where Disney says, "Our cruises are too expensive. Let's lower our prices!"
But YMMV.
It's early. There's still a lot of availability on summer cruises. There going to have to something to move the inventory or maybe they wont.Well....for instance....I am seeing very few discounted sailings for the summer this year. I saw tons last summer but very few this summer. I agree....it will be interesting to see how cruises are selling with the given price point and I'd LOVE to believe they will go down....I just don't think it's realistic. People have been saying that for at least the last two years of releases and it just doesn't happen.....
No typo, we paid $1500. It was the week after Labor day, I guess it hadent sold that great. Got an email from Disney Vacation Club on the special. Just found the email...
