This will be our first time at Universal. My son will be 5 when we go in August, but even though he's quite tall and could go on alot of the rides, he's not adventurous at all. He also is not big on water rides. I have a few questions.

Is ET scary at all? Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast?
In Shrek 4-D, is there any water that sprays out at you in the theater and is there any way to prevent this? At MK, he'll watch Philarmagic as long as I cover the area on the seat in front of him where the mist comes out of.
Would he definitely get wet on One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish?

What rides/attractions would you recommend in this situation? Thanks!! :)

We went last year with DS3 and DS4. There was plenty for them to do. To answer your questions,
E.T. was not scary to my two boys ,however, it does have a few parts that are loud.
Jimmy Neutron was fun but if you are prone to motion sickness, you might want to try the stationary seating up front.
Shrek 4-D- Cannot remember if there is water but my kids did not care for this. We just let them sit in our laps and told them to close their eyes if they got scared.
One Fish, Two Fish- You will get wet, there is no getting around it.

As far as other rides/shows that my kids loved:
At Universal-
Animal Planet Live-amphitheater show with animals
Fievel's Playland- Play area with slides, mazes, etc.
A Day in the Park with Barney- Show with all the characters
Nuthouse Coaster- similar to Goofy's Barnstormer
Curious George Goes to Town- play area with water
Several character meet-and-greets, don't miss Donkey from Shrek

At Islands of Adventure-
The Cat in the Hat- journey through the book, does have a few dark places and spins.
Caro-Seuss-El- Carousel
If I ran the Zoo- interactive play area
High in the Sky Trolly- Trolly train above Seuss Landing
Jurassic Park Discovery Center- Interactive displays with lots of Dinosaurs.
Camp Jurassic- Interactive play area with rope bridges, caves and slides.
Pteranodon Flyers- Glide above Camp Jurassic
Me Ship, the Olive- interactive play area
Many character meet-and-greets.
I think you will have fun and find enough to do.
