rides w/moving walkways

Mom and I are going to WDW soon (yeee!). She definitely has some mobility issues- she can generally walk well and probably can go farther than me. Her problem is with steps (only if there are no railings- curbs are usually tough), and balance. I'm mostly concerned about the rides with moving walkways (Spaceship Earth, Haunted Mansion, Buzz, etc). I really can't picture her being able to step onto one of these without taking a spill. And we certainly don't want that. Do they stop these continuously loading rides for people that need it? do you ask the loading CM or someone else? And is it embarassing, will she feel like she's making a scene (though it would have to be better than falling!)? She's been before, but that was 12 years ago and I can't remember how she did with these. Plus, my Dad was there for her to hold on to. He was supposed to join on this trip, but had to work. I'm just trying to know what to expect so that she doesn't worry when she sees the loading area of these rides. Thanks for any insight!!

One ride to add to your list of worries is Peter Pan, where you get on a moving walkway and board a hanging ride vehicle:eek:. On Buzz Lightyear, they can slow or stop the belt if you need; they do it every time we board with DS's wheelchair, so I don;t see why they couldn't slow or stop it for you. I haven't tried Spaceship Earth of Hauted Mansion with DS but probably will in January. Our beloved moderatrix, SueMinMN cna probably tell yo more.

Thank you pumpkinboy.
You are right about Peter Pan. That is one ride that they can't stop the walkway for (except in emergency). Another one they don't stop is the walkway to go up to the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. They can slow or stop everything else.

There's a BUT involved though. The BUT is that you really need to board at the exit of those moving walkway rides for them to stop the walkway. You can go to Guest Services in any of the parks and tell them that you will have difficulty with boarding the moving walkway rides. They can give her a Guest Assistance Card that will allow her to board those rides at the exit. Much safer!

Here's a past thread about boarding rides that has just the sort of information you are looking for.

thanks for the info! I'm :o that I didn't just do a search- completely forgot about that option! I'm glad I asked because I was nearly positive that the loading walkway could be stopped easily. I was mostly just double checking- would've felt bad to be one of those guests asking for something against the rules!
It seems to me that people (myself included) are always in such a rush to get on and off the rides... I don't want Mom to feel like she's holding anything up. I'm sure everything will be fne, though. I'm looking forward to a more relaxed pace this trip.

Thanks again!

Don't worry. That's what we humans are on the board for!
Hope you have a great trip.
