I'm sure that this is subject to change daily but just an FYI to all of you super planners like me....don't plan too much for the 2 universal parks b/c the rides don't always open at the same times & it's not published in the park map/show times schedule that I saw.

we went to ioa last fri, 3/23 & US on mon, 3/26. At ioa, flying unicorns didn't open til 11 & even then we waited until 11:15 before we gave up, still not open (we returned at 1 w/ about a 10 min wait).

the seuss trolley was only running 1 train in the a.m. which broke down for about 10 min. we then rode & loved it! the other train was possibly going to run from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. but no promises according to the CM there. that CM said that many workers were off that day b/c they had worked long hours the week before for spring break. it was highly noticeable....from CMs who run the rides to security (many more security officers were noticed on mon on the moving walkways & throughout the parks).

other examples included 1 fish, 2 fish - opened at noon (MINUS THE WATER-not running, which drove me nuts after a 40 min. wait at 1:15) - a real bummer! earthquake @ 10, Jaws @ 11, first shows at noon for Barney & the Animal show - in the past, Barney started at 11 & the list goes on.

one can say that it's based on attendance but it really looked like there weren't enough CMs like the CM at Suess Trolley indicated.

i would say that we still got a lot done between 9-11 a.m. so it was worth it to get there at opening & that the parks really don't get crowded until noon. i'm just letting you know that all of the rides open at different times. Maybe this information is at Guest Relations on the morning of? it wasn't a major problem for us but it was a little bit of an inconvenience to run up to a ride w/ little kids only to find out that it's not open til noon. we had to do a lot of back-tracking but it gave us an opportunity to really relax & take a good look at our surroundings so it worked out. sometimes it's best not to overplan!

The opening times are listed next to the ride on the park maps. So check the maps on the day you enter. If some of the rides did not open at the time listed it was most likely due to technical difficulties. These are the times on today's maps but be sure and check the maps on the day you go as it might be different:

Universal Studios:

Woody Woodpeckers coaster and Earthquake both open at 10:00
Terminator starts at 10:30
Jaws 11:00
Horror Makeup: First show is at 11:45
Barney, Animal Actors, and Fear Factors first shows are at 12:00
Beetlejuice show 12:30
Fieval's Playland: 10:00

IOA:

Poseidon's opens at 9:30
All of these open at 10:00 AM: Me Ship the Olive, Popeye's and Bluto's.
Flying Unicorn opens at 11:00
Sindbad Show at 12:30

Any ride not mentioned with a time would open at 9:00 AM.

thanks phamton, good to know that the opening times are next to the rides on the map - i must have missed that & didn't think to look there.

It can be disappointing when a ride isn't open. Back a few years ago when I wasn't scoring very high on MIB, I set aside a day just to ride MIB all day (or at least as long as it took me to improve my score.) I arrived at 9:00 AM on a weekday in January when I knew the park wouldn't be crowded. I figured I could do the single rider line for hours. I ran over to MIB only to find out that they had technical difficulties and weren't open. I spent the morning going back to MIB to see if it was open and finally left at noon, completely discouraged. I've never since seen the ride down for that long. The only good thing is the MIB team members were outside the ride entertaining all the people who walked by. They were joking around and acting like MIB agents and asking if anyone wanted a picture or an autograph of them. It was funny.

I know Jungle Cruise at Magic Kingdom opens later like Jaws. I'd much rather ride both of those rides early in the morning before it gets too hot and humid. (Plus both of those rides seem to have the hottest queues to me.)

i love to be in the parks when it first opens.
i don't care if some of the rides aren't open then.

i love to walk down the streets without many people there.
a great time to take pictures and look carefully at all the details in the buildings.

seussland is great to explore if you just want to look at details and theme

I thought I was the only one who loves that time of day! I have such great photos...they look like postcards. Not a soul in sight! The best time to take pictures and take it all in.

I agree.
