Rides, Slides, Eats & Meets Oct DISmeet Trip. 5/6-Ch 14 Closing Thoughts

Well thanks for waiting for me! You're probably out shoveling snow or something. Come in, have a cup of cocoa and update us!

TANYA! Happy Anniversary!!:cheer2:

After an early evening back to the room from DHS, I knew we could easily get up, hit the free breakfast at the hotel, and make rope drop at Magic Kingdom the next morning. But when we got back to the hotel and discussed our plans nobody was really in the mood to get up super early and rush. I tried to explain to everyone the later we went the more we would be affected by the heat and crowds, but that didn't seem to matter. Well since we were still off-site and our car was the most available form of transportation for all of us, I couldn't get up and head into the park ahead of everyone, so rope drop the next morning was probably out of the question. I didn't even set the alarm clock, knowing I would normally wake up fairly early anyway without it.

The next morning I woke up and jumped in the shower and got the boys up to get ready. I knew it was best to let Alison sleep as long as possible, and that while the boys and I went to eat she could have free run of the shower and room to get ready. While Jonathan was in the shower, Andrew and I headed down for breakfast. This Quality Suites had a little more than just the typical Continental Breakfast fare, and it was pretty good as such hotel breakfasts go. There was definitely plenty of variety for everyone.

After everyone was dressed and suitably fed, we headed to the car and were off to MK. No need to rush now since we would definitely miss the 9:00am rope drop, but even without everyone rushing to get ready, would we at least come close anyway? The drive in was fairly uneventful. We were directed to our parking spot, but we were far enough away to know there were already quite a few people there ahead of us. We wouldn't have the benefit of Disney buses to drop us off close to the entrance this morning, but a tram soon came and dropped us at the TTC. As we exited the tram I noticed there was a long line down the ramp to the Monorail, so we opted to try and catch the Ferry Boats. At least it was a clear, perfect day for a ride across the lake.

As we approached the group waiting for the Ferry Boats one was just arriving to drop people off, although for some strange reason there weren’t very many on board. There was a large crowd already waiting, but I was pretty sure we wouldn't have a problem getting a spot on board the boat that had just docked. As we waited on the dock I spotted my first Hidden Mickey of the day!

We quickly boarded the boat and were soon underway! It was a beautiful day to take some pictures so I made my way with the camera to the railing at the front where I could get a good view of the monorail resorts surrounding the Seven Seas Lagoon.

By now our destination was well in sight.

As we approached the dock I really hadn’t noticed any monorails running, so I’m guessing they weren’t operating for some reason. I guess we made the correct choice for transportation.

We exited the boat, made it quickly through baggage check and were in the park. So how close did we actually come to making rope drop???
1939.jpg

Not very! But hey, we are on vacation, and vacations are made to relax, right??? It had been a leisurely morning so far, so what's a little bit of heat, humidity and a few Disney obsessed friends???

I always love that first view of the Castle from Main Street, USA!
1942.jpg

Since we had a 12:00 ADR at The Plaza, we quickly made our way down Main Street. We arrived a little early so the boys headed into Tomorrowland to get some fastpasses for Space Mountain. While we waited to check in until closer to our ADR, I took the time to take a few pictures.

Of course, there are often things you don’t pay much attention to at Disney, even though they may be right in front of you. That is, of course, unless you have a reason to notice them. Since there was a trash can right in front of me, I had to get a picture. I found the emblem on the side to be very photogenic!!! I’m sure there is at least ONE DISfriend out there who can appreciate the “trashy” side of Disney………

The boys arrived with our first set of fastpasses and I headed for the counter to check in here.

It hadn’t been long enough since breakfast to get very hungry, so we all ate rather light. However, there is one favorite that is going to be ordered regardless.

This trip we had planned to focus on finding Hidden Mickeys. One of my favorites is at The Plaza, but I don’t think very many people have ever noticed it.

After we finished our meal I quickly got tired of wearing a heavy camera around my neck. It was just too hot and too many people to avoid, so I put it in our pack and pretty much left it there. We knew there was no need to rush around with a late start, but the main bulk of our trip was ahead of us, so we just enjoyed being at Disney. Of course we did ride some, but with longer wait times than I like to stand in when it is hot (or any other time for that matter) we collected these to shorten our wait times in line.

After we had enough of the park we headed back to the room and hit the pool and cooled off, then got something to eat at one of the nearby restaurants. Once we got back to the room we started getting everything we could together so we could check out quickly the next morning.

Next Up Chapter 3 – Let's Get Moving.....to OKW!

Marv, the way your day started out, it could have been my day! :rotfl2:

Now, I love all the photos, even though they make me tremendously homesick! And we just left that place a week ago! :scared1:

The collection of Fast Passes is just awesome! Don't you just love how convenient they are at the end of the day. ;)
And I love your photo of the details (like the trash can sign), and especially the Hidden Mickeys!
I have never seen the one at the Plaza, we will have to hunt for it once we get back in August!

Thanks for the update! :goodvibes

I made It over.

Glad to see a shout about the trash can. So many details. I must go back to the Plaza to look for that HM.

Sorry you made it so late. Another reason for staying on property, you can let the late risers catch up on the:)ir own.

Boy, MK looked busy that day. I sure miss that summer sunshine in Florida! Really nice pictures too Marv :thumbsup2

Thanks Marv.

You'd think with all the sitting down I have to do I'd be on here all the time, but alas....I am not. :sad2:

I'll try and make a better effort to be on here from time to time. :)

Oh! And thanks for the welcome!
No problem Camille. You hadn't missed much yet!

Wow, you made it over quick after that update! That HM is little known I think. I don't remember seeing anyone report it anywhere. I guess I should post about it and get the credit!

Sounds like a nice leisurely day !!I have never tried the Plaza but I always look at the menu and I like what I see !!Sooo one day !!.We enjoyed the 1 night in an off site hotel , would have been even better if it was a Torrential down pour the night we arrived !! The pools at the hotel were awesome , but had to wait till morning !! The breakfast was also GREAT and they had juice that was almost as good as Bomas !! I saw Judy going up for more and more and more !!

My phone, My phone.... After the heads up of course.
I think that may have help run down my battery. That and the weather being up and then not shutting the internet down before the meet started. :confused3

The MK does even look hot on your pictures!! :goodvibes

Sounds like a very nice day at the park. I really want to try the Plaza one day.

However, your next trip you might have to plan differently with FPs. You may have heard that they are going to enforce the return time window starting March 7th. It will definitely change my touring habits.

hope you all are okay! and the storm didn't do any damage!!

We have done The Plaza two or three times now! It is a great place to grab a light lunch at MK that isn't the typical burger/chicken fingers. They have a good selection and the food is pretty good, plus it is a sit-down that you can book an ADR for.

Since we stay in DVC resorts, I usually don't like to stay in a DVC room our first night. We usually arrive late in the evening after a long day of driving, and it seems like a huge waste of DVC points just to crash for a night's sleep. :confused3

So you're blaming my "heads up" equally with the weather and your phone internet usage for killing your cell battery??? Sounds more like you were distracted to me...... :rolleyes1

We should have tried the Plaza while we were there! Another good thing is you can often get in doing walk-up. :yay:

As for the FP window enforcement, I am unfortunately very well aware thanks to the DIS. I think it will change a lot of touring habits and I don't know that Disney will like the change. I think it will keep a lot of people from coming back into the parks later in the day after taking a break, which means less food, drink and souvenier sales! :headache:

hope you all are okay! and the storm didn't do any damage!!
Thanks Lisa! Other than a restless and often interrupted sleep, we came through the storms fine! :goodvibes

Great update, friend.

It seems the monorail has been "not" running off and on since our September trip as well (and now not running between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. until the end of the month).

Ahhhhh...The Plaza; how I love that place.

Love all the fastpasses...too bad you won't be able to do that anymore. :headache:

Marv, I AM here! :goodvibes I read your latest update yesterday and I am looking forward to more! Looks as if you are all having a great time...and as you stated...these were just the bonus days! :woohoo::woohoo:

I am glad you weathered the storms too, with just some interrupted sleep. Two miles from us they weren't as fortunate.

I hope you have a blessed Sunday! :goodvibes

Your pictures are so great! Looking at them is really making me excited for our next trip!
