Rides, Slides, Eats & Meets Oct DISmeet Trip. 5/6-Ch 14 Closing Thoughts

Oh Hi my friend! Nice to see you on the DIS! :flower3:
:wave2:  Hope you have an amazing trip!! :thumbsup2

However, your next trip you might have to plan differently with FPs. You may have heard that they are going to enforce the return time window starting March 7th. It will definitely change my touring habits.

MAGDALENA!!
You are so right, and I don't think I'm going to like this at all, but I believe they are enforcing it due to the Xpress pass they want to start selling. At least that's what Brook has been informing us of. :teacher:

Dan, sounds like a good start to your trip, minus the heat. I just can't take the humid FL. heat, my hat is off to you my friend, I don't know how the heck you do it.

We should have tried the Plaza while we were there! Another good thing is you can often get in doing walk-up. :yay:

Next time! :goodvibes I think Katharina and I had talked about it, but it was one of those places which did not really offer something interesting for Katharina with her dietary restrictions. And to be honest, there are a few CS places at the MK which I really like, so it always seems that I don't to get eat at all the places I want to eat at anyway. :goodvibes

As for the FP window enforcement, I am unfortunately very well aware thanks to the DIS. I think it will change a lot of touring habits and I don't know that Disney will like the change. I think it will keep a lot of people from coming back into the parks later in the day after taking a break, which means less food, drink and souvenier sales! :headache:

Interesting thought. To be fair, Disneyland Paris has always enforced the return time and there the window is only 30 minutes. And we never were bothered by that. It has the result that FP does not run out as quickly as it does at WDW. And I think this might be one side effect which would be good. If people actually look whether the return time fits for them it might lead to less FPs being taken in the early hours of the morning.

Camille!! :wave2:
Yes, I know it most definitely has to do with X-Pass. And the more I hear about X-Pass, the less I like it. :sad2:

:cool1: Woo Hoo for such an impressive FP assortment. Stinks that it won't be happening anymore.

I love that hidden Mickey made with rope. Very cool.

Gorgeous pictures of the MK and I think you started off your vacation just right! :thumbsup2

Great update, friend.

It seems the monorail has been "not" running off and on since our September trip as well (and now not running between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. until the end of the month).

Ahhhhh...The Plaza; how I love that place.

Love all the fastpasses...too bad you won't be able to do that anymore. :headache:
Well, I can vouch there were still issues when I returned for my long weekend in October......

Marv, I AM here! :goodvibes I read your latest update yesterday and I am looking forward to more! Looks as if you are all having a great time...and as you stated...these were just the bonus days! :woohoo::woohoo:

I am glad you weathered the storms too, with just some interrupted sleep. Two miles from us they weren't as fortunate.

I hope you have a blessed Sunday! :goodvibes
Glad you had time to stop by Judy, and glad you all are safe! I hadn't heard about the storm causing problems two miles away from you. Hope everyone is okay! :goodvibes

Your pictures are so great! Looking at them is really making me excited for our next trip!
Almost to the update where the yellow shorts make an appearance...... :rolleyes1

Well I'm glad there are still plenty of choices where Katharina can enjoy the food too! That wouldn't be any fun if she couldn't! I guess we never get to eat at ALL the places we would like to! :)

I can see a lot of people who know how to tour the parks passing on FPs with them enforcing the window. It is going to be difficult finding a window that is just perfect so you either don't have to stand around and waste an hour waiting to ride, or being at the other side of the park and having to run back just to make your FP window! :headache:

As for the X-pass, I guess Universal must be making a lot of money off of theirs if Disney is wanting to copy it, but I don't know how. We plan to spend two or three days at Universal on our next trip, but the X-pass isn't even an option. Why spend money on something that doesn't even get you into the most popular rides. That would be the only incentive to me. I guess if they are making money, there are a lot of people who don't realize what they are getting when they buy them. :confused3

:cool1: Woo Hoo for such an impressive FP assortment. Stinks that it won't be happening anymore.

I love that hidden Mickey made with rope. Very cool.

Gorgeous pictures of the MK and I think you started off your vacation just right! :thumbsup2
Thanks Mary Ellen! Our days eventually picked up some. Agree about the FPs. I guess it will give us more time to just enjoy all of the little extras the park offers that we sometimes tend to just blow right by.
:cool1:

Looks like a nice warmup day at MK. How hard was it not to abide by the unwritten DIS rules of hitting Rope Drop?

I'm impressed with the FP collection, and even more with the Plaza Hidden Mickey! Nice work!

Good thing your morning wasn't any more relaxed or you might have missed your lunch ADR. :rolleyes1

Good work collecting fastpasses.

Dan? Really??? :sad2:
she must like me better

because i hope it isnt that we look like each other.:scared:

:lmao:

enjoyed the update friend...i want to find the hidden mickeys on our next trip as well...but need to get the book first, do you use the book or do you just freestyle and see what you come across?

After an early evening back to the room from DHS, I knew we could easily get up, hit the free breakfast at the hotel, and make rope drop at Magic Kingdom the next morning. But when we got back to the hotel and discussed our plans nobody was really in the mood to get up super early and rush. I tried to explain to everyone the later we went the more we would be affected by the heat and crowds, but that didn't seem to matter. Well since we were still off-site and our car was the most available form of transportation for all of us, I couldn't get up and head into the park ahead of everyone, so rope drop the next morning was probably out of the question. I didn't even set the alarm clock, knowing I would normally wake up fairly early anyway without it.

Oh man, I feel your pain! I'm all about rope drop and sometimes my family and sometimes not!

As we approached the group waiting for the Ferry Boats one was just arriving to drop people off, although for some strange reason there weren’t very many on board. There was a large crowd already waiting, but I was pretty sure we wouldn't have a problem getting a spot on board the boat that had just docked. As we waited on the dock I spotted my first Hidden Mickey of the day!

1925.jpg

Cool! What an awesome HM! We've never noticed that one. Good work Nancy Drew.;)

As we approached the dock I really hadn’t noticed any monorails running, so I’m guessing they weren’t operating for some reason. I guess we made the correct choice for transportation.

Seems like the monorail hasn't been too reliable lately. I think it was down at times over the summer due to maintenance?

We exited the boat, made it quickly through baggage check and were in the park. So how close did we actually come to making rope drop???
1939.jpg

:rotfl: So close! You only missed it by about 2 and 1/2 hours!

Not very! But hey, we are on vacation, and vacations are made to relax, right??? It had been a leisurely morning so far, so what's a little bit of heat, humidity and a few Disney obsessed friends???

1938.jpg

1941.jpg

Looks a tad congested there on Main Street. That's why I love rope drop!

It hadn’t been long enough since breakfast to get very hungry, so we all ate rather light. However, there is one favorite that is going to be ordered regardless.
1951.jpg

Nicely done! The Plaza and 50's PT make the best shakes I think.

This trip we had planned to focus on finding Hidden Mickeys. One of my favorites is at The Plaza, but I don’t think very many people have ever noticed it.
2011-07-30_11-49-30_826.jpg

Where the heck was this one?? On the menu or something? The wallpaper?

After we finished our meal I quickly got tired of wearing a heavy camera around my neck. It was just too hot and too many people to avoid, so I put it in our pack and pretty much left it there. We knew there was no need to rush around with a late start, but the main bulk of our trip was ahead of us, so we just enjoyed being at Disney. Of course we did ride some, but with longer wait times than I like to stand in when it is hot (or any other time for that matter) we collected these to shorten our wait times in line.

2011-07-30_21-04-28_708.jpg

Sheesh, how did you manage to collect so many so quickly?!?!

Great update Marvie.:goodvibes And I know I have at least a week or two till the next one.;)

Love the coiled rope photo and the Casey's Sign. Great job! The trashcan plaque was pretty nifty too. :thumbsup2 And good pickup on the hidden Mickey. Oh heck, I liked them all.

Don't blame you on the heavy camera. Been there and done that.

So you're blaming my "heads up" equally with the weather and your phone internet usage for killing your cell battery??? Sounds more like you were distracted to me...... :rolleyes1

Yeah distracted. :rolleyes1 Like that ever happens. :rolleyes1 Look shark!

MAGDALENA!!

I found an article and I have posed on my TR.
info on the Xpass

Yes, I know it most definitely has to do with X-Pass. And the more I hear about X-Pass, the less I like it. :sad2:

Read the article I found above. It doesn't sound too bad.

Gotta add my 2 cents !! I don't like the new FP idea at all !!Anyone know if they will still give out the GAC cards ???

Read the article I found above. It doesn't sound too bad.

I have read all the Jim Hill articles on the issue - and besides that I don't like his rather condescending tone at all - in his recent article (http://jimhillmedia.com/editor_in_c...s-as-well-as-disney-world-s-day-visitors.aspx) he talks about how they plan to change the East Rose Garden at the hub into a parade/firework viewing area for 1200 people. I don't think that this will be a great addition.

I don't necessarily believe that it will make touring the parks really awful, but I don't like that they spend 1 billion dollars on this while they have huge maintenance issues at Splash Mountain and haven't build a new E-ticket ride since Soarin.

I also don't like all this personalization of everything which X-Pass is supposed to bring around. I don't think there is anything special if a computer uses my name to make Peter Pan say "Welcome to Neverland Magdalene". :confused3

Especially as it won't be abe to pronounce it properly....

What, WHat WHAT???? :scared1:

Great catch Marv!!!! :thumbsup2

For whatever reason, I love this pic!

Looks like you just missed RD! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Since we had a 12:00 ADR at The Plaza, we quickly made our way down Main Street.
HAHA... you almost missed your ADR! :rotfl::rotfl:

I heard from a little birdy you might be in WDW in January? Is this true???? :confused3

Looks like a nice warmup day at MK. How hard was it not to abide by the unwritten DIS rules of hitting Rope Drop?

I'm impressed with the FP collection, and even more with the Plaza Hidden Mickey! Nice work!
At this stage of the trip, it wasn't too bad! Between having just been at New Years, and knowing we had multiple days during the trip at each park, we pretty much decided as long as we made rope drop once at each park we would have a chance to enjoy everything we wanted to do. I guess another benefit of having those APs in hand! :cool1:

Good thing your morning wasn't any more relaxed or you might have missed your lunch ADR. :rolleyes1

Good work collecting fastpasses.
Yeah, we were definitely cutting that one close. I guess the good thing is we did have breakfast fairly early in that scenario, so we were still able to enjoy The Plaza....but close enough to the time to cut down on the order of a couple of growing teenage boys....

she must like me better

because i hope it isnt that we look like each other.:scared:

Yeah, because then Candi would think she died and won the lottery........ (rimshot)

enjoyed the update friend...i want to find the hidden mickeys on our next trip as well...but need to get the book first, do you use the book or do you just freestyle and see what you come across?
Yes.... Actually we used the book some because our goal was to find as many as we could this trip.....but we didn't always have it with us. :confused3

Oh man, I feel your pain! I'm all about rope drop and sometimes my family and sometimes not!

Yep, that sounds familiar!!!:guilty:

Cool! What an awesome HM! We've never noticed that one. Good work Nancy Drew.;)

Thanks, Hardy-har-har Boys!!!

Seems like the monorail hasn't been too reliable lately. I think it was down at times over the summer due to maintenance?

True Dat!

:rotfl: So close! You only missed it by about 2 and 1/2 hours!

I thought we had a chance!!! So close, and yet so far!

Looks a tad congested there on Main Street. That's why I love rope drop!

Ah, just a couple of other............thousand people!!!

Nicely done! The Plaza and 50's PT make the best shakes I think.

Where the heck was this one?? On the menu or something? The wallpaper?

I've give you a chance to look for it first.......... If you are very observant when you walk in, you might find it rather quickly!!!;)

Sheesh, how did you manage to collect so many so quickly?!?!

Well you see, when you get to Disney there is this time continuum thing, and ..........

Great update Marvie.:goodvibes And I know I have at least a week or two till the next one.;)
I knew it! And I was starting to think you could make it all the way through ONE post and remain sweet the whole time........

Love the coiled rope photo and the Casey's Sign. Great job! The trashcan plaque was pretty nifty too. :thumbsup2 And good pickup on the hidden Mickey. Oh heck, I liked them all.

Don't blame you on the heavy camera. Been there and done that.
:woohoo: the Great Biscuit has found my TR!!!! I'm pretty sure this is your first post here so........... :welcome: Great Biscuit![/COLOR] And thanks for not being as wordy as on Glenn's TR!!! :rotfl:

Yeah distracted. :rolleyes1 Like that ever happens. :rolleyes1 Look shark!

Well you know, so many kids in pool water and lightning are about like oil and water right??? Of course, Look Shark! might work better than "Okay folks, there is lightning in the area and a funnel cloud headed our way.....Nothing to really worry about, but you need to get out of the pool........"

I found an article and I have posed on my TR. What did you pose as? Dan??? :)

Thanks for the link! Can't wait to read.....this FP change has me thinking I will need to reevaluate my whole way of touring the parks......

Gotta add my 2 cents !! I don't like the new FP idea at all !!Anyone know if they will still give out the GAC cards ???
Rosie? Adding her 2 cents worth? Where did THAT come from??? :confused3

Hopefully Peter won't shorten names and call you.............

Oops, better not go there!!!! :scared1:

For whatever reason, I love this pic!

I can think of lots of reasons.

Looks like you just missed RD! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

HAHA... you almost missed your ADR! :rotfl::rotfl:

That must have been a little frustrating. Just a little...

I heard from a little birdy you might be in WDW in January? Is this true???? :confused3
:listen: What's this? Where is that birdie?????

I knew it! And I was starting to think you could make it all the way through ONE post and remain sweet the whole time........

Look who is :stir::stir::stir::stir::stir: Not this

Hi Marv, I have nothing clever to add so I will just say...Have a wonderful weekend! :goodvibes:goodvibes
