Rides like Star Tours at MGM?

It's our first time to US/IOA and I would like to be able to know beforehand which rides are like Star Tours or Body Wars at WDW. My kids & I can ride this type, but my husband can't, so it'll really help in planning.
Thanks for any info!

The only things even comparable are Jimmy Neutron and Back to the Future, but neither are really the same type as Body Wars and Star Tours.

Jimmy Neutron has stationary seating avaiable, and that really leaves Back to the Future as the only possible concern.

You may want to think about Spiderman and Cat in the Hat as well. My Dad is prone to motion sickness and he didn't do too well on these. But on Cat in the Hat you can ask for the sofa not to spin.

I get sick on motion simulators as well. The only one that makes me sick at Universal is Back to the Future. It is also rough, very much like Body Wars. Jimmy Neutron is wide open so you can look around if you are feeling queezy.

Thanks so much for your help! We may just totally skip Back to the Future this time. We'll be back to US again, so we can try it another trip.
I've watched the video of MIB...it also looks like it "spins", sort of like Buzz Lightyear SRS? DH can ride BLSRS, but he has to be the one to control the turning of the car. Can you give me details of this one, too?
Thanks again...I appreciate all the info!

Cindy, you can't control the spin on MIB - there's one part of the ride where folks in the other car shoot at a spot on your car; if they hit it, your car will spin. You also spin at the end of the ride, too.

Slighty off topic (totally:tongue: ) do u get points for hitting other car:crazy:

As someone prone to motion sickness, I have to say that the ride technology ar Universal is light years ahead of that used in Star Tours (which DID make me sick) and other old fashioned "movie screen in a box" type simulators.

BTTF does such a brilliant job of synchronizing what you are seeing with what you are feeling that the chances of motion sickness are significantly reduced.

The only times I've gotten the least bit queasy was when I rode BTTF three times in rapid succession and even then it wasn't too bad.

So please don't write off BTTF! It's a magnificent ride.

Wow, thanks. BTTF is one of our "classic" movies (we're totally in that age-bracket!), so DH & I would love to do this ride. He's done Star Tours once, and it didn't make him ill; just queasy enough not to go back on (and he loves Star Wars). The worst experience he's ever had was at DQ on the Alladin simulator where the screen is in some kind of helmet thing. He felt awful all day...however we had done the roller coaster simulator before that at DQ and he was fine in that. It's so hard to tell, and it's awful to make the wrong choice & go through the rest of the day feeling bad! I guess I'll ride ahead if we have time (darn, I have to ride TWICE? ). Thanks for the info! We'll be wary with both MIB & BTTF.

Cindy, make sure he takes some kind of motion sickness medicine. I get slightly queezy on Star Tours but I get sick on BTTF. I think it is because it bangs your head around. You should definitely ride it first and then give him the yay:D or nay:(

Now for MIB, if I take some type of motion sickness med, I can and have ridden it for four hours straight using the single riders line and did not get sick. It is the spin (three times around) in the steam at the end of the ride that gets me.

Damo, that end spin of MIB gets me as well. It hasn't bothered me too much as of late, though.

Your husband sounds like me. I can make it through Star Tours, but I don't want to. Body Wars -- NEVER AGAIN! I say the same thing about Back to the Future -- NEVER AGAIN! It was just awful! However, Spiderman is wonderful, because you actually move! (I think it is the best ride in Disney and Universal.) Cat in the Hat, no problem. Men In Black, no problem. Jimmy Neutron, I haven't been on, but if it is anything like the previous ride there, your husband should be OK.

On another topic, I really wanted to try Mission Space, so I took some motion sickness medicine before I went. I got slightly sweaty by the end of the ride, but not bad at all. I don't think the medicine had time to take effect because later on that day I just ZONKED out (slept through the entire ride of Ellen's Energy Adventure.) I think I'm going to try mission space again without medicine and see what happens. (The liftoff was fine, it was the asteroids that got me sweating a little.)
