I am going to Disney and I am concerned about the width of the seats on the rides. I am a large size woman( size 24) and i know that especially on rolaar coasters the seats and harnesses can be rather small. Any input to avoid embarassment on this sensitive topic would be appreciated.!!!!!

Hi Snoopylover, My husband and I are both very fluffy as well. We have encountered very few problems. One was on Kali River Rapids. We sat together in a seat for two and could barely get the seatbelt fastened (It had to go over both of us). We are AP's and go frequently. Check out the WDW at large section of wdwig.com. There are details on every ride that might give you a problem. I would say that you and I are similar in size and I have no problems on anything. If you have any specific questions, post them and I will try to check back (must pack tonight for a weekend trip to WL :) )

I think you will have a great time!

If I remember correctly, there was a pretty long thread going about just this subject. The search isn't working right now but I will try to keep checking for you. I think it was titled "Poohsized _______" or something like that. The basic message was that plus sized people really had limited to no problems at Disney. Don't worry... you will be fine.

I wear the same size as you so I would guess we are pretty close in size. I ride almost every ride there is in Magic Kingdom & have never had a problem with any of them. So don't worry & just have a wonderful time.:Pinkbounc :bounce:

I worried about this CONSTANTLY before we went on our last trip (on prior trips I had been thinner). It almost ruined my excitement about going. I didn't want to do "the walk of shame" after being told I would not fit on a ride in front of my family. I shouldn't have worried! I'm a size 24 also - you won't have a problem. Have fun!

When there might be a tight fit for two larger sized adults I think the CM's do a good job on taking care of the situation for you. When we went to ride Primeval Whirl it didn't look to me like me and my husband could sit comfortably in one of those cars with two other people. As we got closer to board I could tell for sure that we would not fit. I didn't know what to do. I didn't want to have to do the walk of shame either because they had been putting 4 people in each car. (I was paying very close attention!) When we got up there the CM could tell that it wouldn't be comfortable for us to squeeze in there together so he gave us a car to ourselves. They did the same thing again on a later trip when my sister and husband went on the ride. They did it in a way so that no attention would be drawn to us.

If you want to ride the tea cups at the MK and have a big butt and real short legs like me you might want to think of a plan of attack for getting into and out of the cup. It isn't that bad, but I'm just real short and my butt is right below the top of the doorway.

A few bathrooms feel cramped to me. But the secret is to go to one of the stalls on the end. They aren't the handicapped stalls, but just a tad bit larger. They don't have the handrails in them, but the doors do open out.

Have a wonderful trip! You won't have to worry about a thing!

Just wanted to add that I'm in a similar size range and I was worried about Mission:Space. Glad to report that I rode today and had no problem with the seat or the restraints.

that's great pammy! i know my dh was a bit worried about fitting on MS. :)

I'm feeling pretty confident about the rides with all of these posts but I am a bit more poohsized. I'm a size 28 and definately don't want to do the walk of shame on anything. Has anyone my size had any problems with any rides? I'm thinking Space Mountain might be one of them but any feedback would be great.

My DH is large (he was about 370lbs on our trip last year, he has since lost 30 lbs :D) and I must say how wonderfully accomodating everything at Disney was as far as size, and handicapped issues. So unlike most other parks we've been too. I have told several people I know about how pleased we were. We never had a problem with anything, but there were a few things we were prepared for...

1. Kali River Rapids, discreetly as the ride operator if you can sit by yourself. You don't have to say why, they'll get it ;)That way they won't automatically sit someone next to you.

2. Eating at the Sci-Fi. Those litle cars are tiny. Ask for a table, they are still car shaped, but with more room. Put it on your PS if possible. Remind them when you get there. Here is a link to a pic of DH and I at a table: http://pages.sbcglobal.net/tonyandgiovanna/disney/scifi.jpg

Those were the only 2 issues were encountered the whole week. At first DH was nervous about the water park and not being "slim and sexy" but, it's not like going to Daytona Beach for Spring break. The water parks are filled with "pooh sized" middle aged parents having a ball with thier kids. So, if you were hesitant about that, don't! My DH had a blast at Blizzard Beach, and didn't feel self conscious at all.

Edited to add: We were worried about Space Mountain and Rock'n'Roller coaster. He was able to do both (though Space Mountain was a bit of a squeeze, but doable). You can check out the link above and compare his size to yours.

Just wanted to welcome you to the DIS, Snoopylover. Hope you enjoy it here, great people, lots of help.

And, BTW, I am a very tall guy (6'6") and carrying a few too many pounds, and I find I fit in everything I want to go on. Sometimes a bit snug on my knees, but I get in there, LOL, and have a ball. Enjoy!!!! :bounce:

Hi All-

What a great thread! I'm a 16/18 and am constantly worried about fitting into things. The only place where I had a problem was Astro Orbitor because DH (6'2", 240#) and I tried to fit into one rocket. I'm 5'8", and there was no place to put my legs. I recommend going on that ride solo. I was embarassed, but no one else seemed to care! Just go and have a great time!!!

Hi Snoopylover! Welcome to the DIS. I'm really glad you found us and I hope you can join us often.

There was a post about a month ago on this very subject and I think we were able to reassure BlessedMomof2 that she would have no problems fitting in the rides.

You will find that post right HERE

Have fun planning your trip and don't worry about this.

Katholyn

I am feeling so much better since hearing from all you nice people. I am more concerned about my 7 year old being embarassed if mommy can't fit. It seems on the newer rides, especially the thrill coasters that the seats are more contoured and the harnesses are not made for women who are well developed . Thanks for all the support!!!!

5 days and counting!!!!

What a great topic and very useful for all of us "fluffy" folk! Dallas_Lady....thanks so much for sharing your experience. You and your husband are such a happy-looking couple. I enjoyed looking at your photos. I am a very "fluffy" newlywed and am going to Disney for the first time with my husband. He hasn't been there in years and neither have I. This is our first time together and I was also a little apprehensive about fitting into seats....it is humiliating and trust me I'm not the largest person in the world. I can just imagine how other people in this situation feel. I didn't want to be embarrassed and I don't want my husband to be embarrassed for me. Again, to all thanks for the great help! Kelli :Pinkbounc

Dan Murphy--- I know what you mean...my husband is just about 7 feet tall and he is very broad(think 52 jacket size)...somethings are a little tight for his knees, but the CM are really great about letting him sit by himself. Splash Mountain is one where he has to be by himself.
RNR coaster--request the front seat of any car...just a little bit larger.
trust me wether you are tall or bigger..WDW is the best because you see everyone of all sizes and the CM's are accomodating!

The only ride I've experienced with tight-fitting seats during my Disney trips is American Airlines!!! :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

Dallas_Lady,
Thanks so much for your input and your pics. It really was very helpful. I guess I will be fine but I'm just nervous. I really want to ride Space Mountain but hey....I'm gonna give it a shot...why not?

I loved your website and all of your pics. Thanks again.

You're all very welcome!

I learned so much from this message board when planning my trip, I feel it's only fair to "give back" :)
