I was glancing through the Disney app on my phone yesterday and was surprised to see quite a few rides closed at MK. These included Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain and quite a few hours. I checjed Epcot and Test Track was shut too. Was this for weather reasons?
If you're in a queue (obviously some can be quite lengthy..) and the ride is closed, do people tend to still wait (unless it's obvious it's not going to re-open any time soon?) - or are they given any form of return pass?

All of those rides will often close for lightning in the area. Even if it never rains one drop and you don't see the lightning--better safe than sorry.

If you have a FP and the ride closes, it automatically becomes a free-for-all for any ride that day. If you're in standby, you can usually choose to wait it out but if we're talking a legitimate mechanical shutdown I know they sometimes clear out the lines.

I am here in Disney World now. It poured rain from about 4:30 for the rest of the day. I imagine that is why you saw a lot of rides down.

When we were evac'd from Maelstrom, they gave us fast passes, but not for every ride. Only Tier 2 rides.

"TT" down at some point is basically a given just about everytime we go to Epcot--- remember when they were first building the attraction?

It didnt work when it rained !! In Florida !!! :lmao:

This happened to us on TT in June. When we went back, they were "out of fast passes" but we were welcome to all ride seperate! Not a good idea for my young kids. We never re-couped the lost fast passes.

I don't understand why they are not making this up to people. It seems inconsistent. I've read some say look at your email and you will have a pass for anytime, if it was a fp selection. So is this not happening? We leave in 2 weeks and I know it is likely that weather will affect our fp selections or that a ride will possibly shut down as we are in the standby line. Are we just out of luck if that happens?

I have also read about the emails that people get, and have also read that CM's have passed out paper FP's to guests. That was not our case during our recent visit. We were the very next people to load when BTMRR shut down for lightning. I asked the ride operator if we would be given a paper FP since we used FP for this ride but were told no because we had tapped our magic bands twice and had already merged with the standby line. He said according to the system, it looked like we rode the ride even though we didn't.

We've had 2 of these in the last 2 weeks for weather. Just as an FYI, it wasn't just an email (I have problems with email access on my phone) - we also got a notification on our phones through MDE. In both situations we hadn't gone through the scanner yet and our FP's were automatically updated to the generic one.

I agree that they need to come up with an alternative for people who have passed the scanners before it closes - that definitely is not fair.

so if you do not have the bands and just have tickets are you better off if this happens. Do the tickets get scanned in the same way.

I got an email only, no notifications through MDE. We had not used the FP at all.

So if weather or mechanical issues arises and a ride I have a FP for is closed, you guys are saying my FP will turn to a generic FP? Is it good only for the time slot of the original FP? Or is it good for any ride at any given time the rest of the day (one time use)???

It's good for the original ride you were booked on, and they also give you a list of other rides for which it can be used (don't expect to see any headliners here, except possibly in MK). It's good for the rest of the day for any of the listed attractions.

Here is a recent example of the type of email they will send with instructions on what you can do:

. We're sorry, your previously confirmed FastPass+ selection for Test Track® Presented by Chevrolet® from 2:10 PM to 3:10 PM on 06/21/2014 needs to be changed because the experience is temporarily unavailable.

As a replacement, you may now visit any one of the following FastPass+ experiences on 06/21/2014, starting at 2:10 PM through anytime during normal Theme Park operating hours (Valid Theme Park admission is required and your FastPass+ selection cannot be redeemed during Extra Magic Hours):

Experiences*
The Seas with Nemo & Friends®
Captain EO
Maelstrom
Test Track® Presented by Chevrolet®
Mission: SPACE®
Spaceship Earth
Journey Into Imagination With Figment
Living with the Land

There is no action needed to select the experience in advance. During the designated day and time, just arrive at the FastPass+ entrance to one of the experiences above and touch your MagicBand to enter!

*Note that you may be able to still experience your selection for Test Track® Presented by Chevrolet® if it becomes available again today, unless you opt to visit one of the other listed experiences.

I posted earlier that the other day we got an email and MDE notification. Sitting here now at MK hoping the storm will pass so we can use our mine train FP. its definitely closed but we haven't received an email or MDE notice. It closed about 10 minutes before our window started. Same timeframe as our Kai FP rainout last week but no notice this time. Guess procedures have some variations.

Really, it's not so much that the ride doesn't work when it rains, it's that riding in a convertible with the top down at 65 miles an hour in the rain is not a pleasant experience. Even very small raindrops can sting at that speed.

At that time, the word that was going around when the ride was down was that once the track got wet, they had problems with the cars-

If you had a FP+ for TT and it's not available, why can't you do Soarin' as an alternative? Generally people are choosing between those two for their main one..??..

Because Epcot only has 2 E-ticket rides which everyone wants to ride. If they let you go on Soarin', it would absolutely overwhelm the line.
