Rides and glasses.....

Just got glasses (I can see I can see) and have never toured with them....

I have perscription sunglasses too, and plan on switching back and forth......

Any tips?? What rides should I be concerned about??

I cant wait to SEE the World clearly!!!

Only ride I get concerned on, Laura, is Space, with its jerky movements. Never lost them yet though. Nice to see, eh??

I usually switch between glasses and contacts during my vacation, so I know of a few places I am leery of wearing my glasses. They are:

MK -

BTMR
Splash Mountain
Space Mountain

All others are okay. Most you will have to wear your normal glasses since it a bit dark inside with sunglasses on

Epcot -
TT
M:S
If your glasses are super loose, check them on Body Wars

MGM -
ToT
RnRC

AK -
P:W
Dinosaur if they are loose


Just remember to carry a case with you all day since shoving them in your pocket will most likely squish and bend them.

I've been on all the thrill rides at WDW (except Mission: Space - can't wait to try that one!) with my glasses on and haven't had a problem.

I've worn them on all of the thrill rides at Disney and have never had a problem with them. I sometimes wear a string around them as an extra precaution (and will wrap the string around my ear once or twice to be extra safe). I'm actually going to keep them on when I ride the coasters for the first time.

I usually bring an extra pair of glasses with me when I travel that way if something happens to them, I have a spare pair. I had a pair break when I was in Myrtle Beach once, and it was a pain to find someplace to get them fixed.

My friend and I both went on Mission Space. She has glasses and she took them off for this ride and she did not do well at all. I would recommend keeping them on for this one.

I've never had a problem wearing my glasses and I've been on everything at WDW.

I have ridden every thrill ride at WDW (except for Mission: Space) and I have never had a problem. However, there are a few guidelines to follow:

1) Always look forward. Looking ahead actually will cause the wind to push your glasses more firmly onto your face. If you look to the side, air may rush into the area between your lens and eye and blow the frames off your face.

2) Keep your hands down in the ride. Dittoes for those beside you. Arms jostling side to side during a ride can whack you in the face and knock your glasses off.

3) If the attraction has a over-the-shoulder restraint like R-n-R, try and hold your head still and not bang your glasses against the restraint.

Follow those three ideas, and you won't have a problem! Also, I make sure to take a 2nd pair with me whenever I leave town... no matter what I'm doing.

Thanks eveyone for your thoughts! My glasses are pretty secure, so I will only take them off on really rough rides... as I dont have a back up (other than my sunglasses)

I waited forever to get glasses... not that my vision is terrible, but just enough that I have to concentrate really hard to see stuff (can you tell I am still in denal?) And I have the new progression bifocals (turned 40=bifocals lol) and I love them! Everything is nice and crisp!

Splash Mountain is not a problem with glasses, except I was in the front row and they got a little water on them. Course, that's not a roll coaster so not so rough, but that one you don't have to worry about.

If you are concerned - go to a sporting goods store a buy a
sports type eyeglass retainer strap. The ear pieces of the
glasses go into the strap. I own 2 - 1 for my sunglasses and 1
for my normal glasses. I enjoy rollercoasters and have used
them everywhere (including 120 mph Top Thrill Dragster).

These work much better than the cords with plastic ends.

Thanks for this thread! My son got glasses last summer, but alas, I am a bad mother & have not taken him to an amusement park since. It is good to know that he will have no troubles. I wore glasses as a teenager, but don't remember what I did at the amusement parks.

I only took my glasses off for Space Mountain and the Rock & Roller Coaster. Didn't have a problem with any other rides (and I did them all!!)

I have ridden every ride in WDW with my glasses on and without any other "tie down" methods. Not only have I not lost them, they haven't even moved.

The glasses I would be more worried about are the "extra" set. Depending on where you store them, they could become a problem. If they are in a pocket, vest or pant, they can easily become dislodged. Make sure they are in a secure place.

Being in and out of buildings as much as you are at Disney, I found it best to have the Photo-gray lenses. It is just to much hastle to keep switching back and forth.

For additional security you might try using those elastic athletic bands that go from your ear piece around the back of your head. Then you can be sure that nothing will happen to them.

Have a good time actually seeing the attractions...now you won't miss any detail.

I actually went out and spent $400 to get a new pair of those Transition lenses. They worked great last summer. I too was afraid to wear my glasses the first couple of times we were there. But, I've found that they are fine. I do wear that 'library lady' string thingie. My dd, 10, also wears one. Just to be on the safe side! We also have extra pairs of glasses back in the room, just in case. Our photo from Test Track looks like my dd is holding her nose. But, she has her fingers on the nosepiece of her glasses, just in case. It does look kind of funny!

I have been wearing glasses since I was in 4th grade and I'm extremely blind!!

I am a thrill seeker and will ride any roller coaster I come to. There has only been one attraction in the US that I have even been remotely worried about my glasses, and that was one of those flying coasters where you are suspended face down. Other than that I have never even considered taking off my glasses.

Some of the Six Flags folks require that you remove your glasses, and quite frankly, I can't enjoy those attractions at all because I can't see.

However, I'm solving all of those problems on January 8th!!! LASIK surgery for me!!!!!!!!

I wear prescription glasses and sunglasses and usually am only concerned on RnR so I wear a glasses strap.

The most important suggestion I have is to make certain that you use a hard case for the pair you are not wearing and make sure to put your name, your resort and travel dates, and your phone # and address at home on/in it. One time my glasses case (with my non-sun glasses inside) was hooked on to my bag and fell to the floor on a Disney bus. I didn't realize it was missing until I got off the bus. I was freaking out because the bus left and we were about to catch the shuttle back to the airport. Fortunately, the same bus came back after a while and I found the glasses case on the floor of the bus. After that stressful incident I always am extra careful with my glasses, and always try to notice which bus driver I have.

Also, never wear your glasses in the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon. The waves are very strong and mine came off even though they were strapped on. Fortunately I had people with me and they found them under the water. I, of course, was practically too blind to even look for them.
