rides and a 6 month old

We are leaving on Friday (YAY! ) for Disneyland and I've read some things about making the babies sit on their own for some rides and not on a parent's lap? We have a 6 month old and she doesn't sit up on her own yet. And plus, making babies sit on their own seems a lot less safe to me than keeping them on your lap!

Anyway...

Which rides can you keep baby on your lap or in a carrier? Which ones require they sit on their own?

When we were there in July my two month old had to sit on her bottom on the teacups, had to sit facing FORWARD in my lap under the seatbelt/safety bar on Peter Pan and Dumbo, the Carousels, and Winnie the Pooh and could ride any way on Buzz Lightyear, Mr. Toad, Pirates, Snow White, Alice, Storybook Boats, and Monster's Inc. Those are the only rides I took her on.

i've noticed in recent years that disneyland has gotten pretty militant about seating on these rides when it comes to really small children. we used to go a lot (had AP's when we lived nearby), and my third child was 5 months old when we started going with her on a regular basis. we used to be able to always have her sit on our lap, on TOP of the lap bar on rides like pinocchio and snow white. when we went a few years ago when our youngest child was just 4 months old, they wouldn't have any of that! it was a hassle, but i guess i see their point (don't want babies accidentally toppling out of the ride car). the problem is, i used to be able to ride the rides with a baby in a snugli, and the new rules completely changed that. fortunately all of mine are preschool age and up now, so these new seating rules won't really affect us anymore.

be very careful with little babies and toddlers sitting on their own in these rides, because their faces are just the right height to usually hit the lap bar when the ride starts up, or to go backwards and hit the hard seat back behind them. you kind of have to hold onto their head during the ride, lol.

sounds like if you have your baby in a carrier (like the bjorn) facing forward that you should be able to ride that way...with the belt over the baby... at least this is what i'm going to try with my 8-month old next month. i guess i could just carry her, but she's a heavy one!

We took our DD when she was 5 months old in Feb 2007. Unless things have changed, she could sit on our laps (but still under the lap bar) on everything except Roger Rabbit. On that ride, she had to be sitting on her own bottom between us. I wouldn't take a baby that small on the teacups, but maybe that's just my own bias. I can't stand them!

you took your 5-month old on Roger Rabbit?! i thought there was a height restriction for that ride? and i thought you couldn't bring babies/toddlers on any ride with a height restriction (unless of course your toddler actually met the height restriction)...

I don't believe there is a height restriction on Roger Rabbit, maybe someone will correct me. But our DD hasn't met any height restrictions that we know of yet, and we've taken her on that ride a couple times. In hindsight, I don't think I would have taken her on that ride since it is pretty jerky and she didn't enjoy it, even at 14 months.

Militant is fine... as long as I know what to expect. I wouldn't want to have her all wrapped up in the carrier only to find out we had to undo it to get on. And I definitely don't want to put her on any ride where they make her sit on her own! On my lap facing forward is fine.

sounds like if you have your baby in a carrier (like the bjorn) facing forward that you should be able to ride that way...with the belt over the baby...

I have the Action Baby Carrier and it's really designed for facing mommy (or daddy) on the front carry or for doing a back carry.

That's good to hear - on my lap under the bar is fine with me. I don't think we'll be taking her on Roger Rabit though. I cant imagine trying to hold her up in a sitting position on any ride!



So what about Nemo Subs? Anyone know what I can expect on those? Any other rides (including DCA) that I'm not thinking of?
