Riders Stuck on Rip Ride Rockit

Oh I know, I feel for them too. Local news keeps breaking in showing them - I guess the only good thing is that they're laying prone on their backs, imagine if they were facing down for 1 1/2 hrs (so far) :crazy2:

Taking a pass on this ride.
Did not notice this happened when there.

I feel bad for those riders

Follow up everyone is off, only one person complained of neck pain. :)

wftv (local Orlando TV) says:

There was a glitch that caused the computers to go into safety mode which stopped the ride and trapped people for hours, Orlando Fire Rescue officials said.
The riders, three of them children, were in a vertical position on the ride but had been moved up so they could be rescued.
Officials said one person was being treated for neck pain.
Until officials can determine what went wrong, the ride will remain closed.

I was in Universal Studios today. I saw they were trapped there. Didn't know they were there for 1 and 1/2 hours since I was waiting for transformer and that ride stopped for a while too.

When I went to margarita vile on the water taxi last night around 8:ish, did see the peeps stuck on the ride.

Felt concerned for those ten homies.

Never going on that ride again. Besides being uncomfortable as all hell and breaking down on a regular basis, the constant breaking has done a huge number on my neck.

I'm with you on that!!!!!!!

If I was stuck on it last night I would need therapy for years for my fear of heights!!

You won't catch me on that ride either. Considering that the ride manufacture put out a safety recall on the towbars between the cars ( the manufacturer said they were showing signs of early fatique due to being under engineered. The replacement part wouldn't be available for about 2 months at the time.) on the first week of the month of the month and the head talking head comes out same day and says doesn't apply to us since we took care of that weeks ago and that they were going to do annual maint on the ride but we don't know how long it takes.

Actually the Universal Studios was the one who discovered the ride fatigue on the part. They notified the manufacturer who then put out the bulletin. Universal shutdown the ride before the recall was released. They found the defect not the ride manufacturer. Universal anticipated that the ride might be down for months but luckily it was only a few weeks. The ride techs were really on the ball when they discovered the defect. The cracks weren't visible on the outside as they were inside the metal. The manufacturer would never had known if it weren't for Universals techs and engineers.

Ill take your word for it. Assuming the ride techs found it, good job.

The way that he described it, and he did almost the same thing with Ripsaw, was that he never mentioned that they found they issue, only that the recall/check letter was received on say on the 10th, and that USF had already taken care of the problem weeks in advance. Going by what he said, how do you fix something you were just made aware of? The thing that struck me was, and this is what he said about Ripsaw when it caught fire, was that both rides were going to be down for annual maint, and USF didnt know how long that takes. Really. Im pretty sure the mechanics can tell you how long it takes to do the annual.
The 2 best things I learned working in public safety, and having to deal with the press is 1, dont make something up, especially to the press. Theyll hang you out to dry. And then some. They can and will make your life miserable. In some ways they are worse then lawyers 2. If you dont know, find out who does and ask. At somepoint in time, things will come back to haunt you if you continually say I dont know, or make statements that constantly dont stand up.

I sent you a private message with more info on the metal fatigue. I don't feel I can post it on a public forum. But rest assured, that the techs did discover it and reported it to the manufacturer.

I wasn't there on the day that the riders were stranded this week so I don't have any info on that one though.

We were there that night. We were eating at Bubba Gump's and saw a whole bunch of helicopters and couldn't figure out what was happening.

We got back to the room and turned on the TV at the HardRock and saw the breaking news special.

We went to HHN the next night and our RIP Tour guide said that they were stuck for 3 hours and that we would not be going on this ride tonight. It was open and a 60min wait

Oh, I understand.I absolutely loved this ride. But I'll never ride it again. It shook my head so hard I was afraid of a brain or spinal cord injury. It's up in my top 10 of favorite rides ever, but I won't risk another turn on it.

I missed riding it this past weekend but will ride it a bunch in a few weeks. Yes sometimes it's a ruff ride but still a blast.

We rode it loads of times our trip and were worried every time it was going to be rough, especially with DS back issues.

However......every single ride was smooth.....but we were never further back than the second row......we were on the front nearly every time.

I know we felt it was rough last year when we sat nearer the back.....very rough!!!

You're right.......it's a blast of a ride........we love it too :thumbsup2
