What are the rules for Rider Swap?

Do you have to use the 'Swap Pass' right away?

Or can you wait to use later in the week?

What do they hand you?

Thanks

They hand you a pass that looks similar to what the old Fast Passes looked like, they are good for up to three guests and expire at the end of the month.

The first group of riders plus the waiting adult and the too-small child approach the first CM (at either standby line or fsatpass line, depending on how the first group is riding) and ask for a baby swap.
At most rides, they'll give you the swap pass (looks like the old paper fastpass). At some rides, they'll give the first group of riders a badge to hand in at the ride loading area to exchange for the swap pass.
In any case, the swap pass will expire at the end of the month and will be good for 3 people to ride the ride via the fastpass line.

we are going at the end of the month. If the swap pass will expire at the end of the month, and we acquire it on the 30th of the month. Does that mean we have to use it the next day before it expires?

We're going at the end of January and asked that exact question last week. Only one poster replied, but she had just been and on the 30th, did unfortunately get a pass that expired that day.

Yes, we got one on May 30 and had like a day to use it. They all expire on the last day of the month- not 30 days from issue.

I have an additional rider swap question, I hope it's OK to ask it here. I hate roller coasters, or any rides with big drops. When we go it's my husband and 2 kids - who all enjoy those crazy rides :) My kids are young enough where they would still want a parent sitting next to them. I was wondering, would they give rider swap pass for my husband to ride with one child and then have him ride again with the other child, so I can sit out?

You should book a FP for your husband and Child #1. On the Swap, Child #2 can ride with your husband. Any 3 riders can ride on the Swap.

@MDarling - another option that is a sure thing without hoping that a CM gives you a Swap pass is to book FPs for your complete family. Husband rides with Child #1 then returns with your FP to ride with Child #2 who also has a FP.

You will more than likely not be given a swap pass without a too short child

So it's Mom, Dad, Child #1 and Too Small Child #2. When booking FP+ is it OK for Mom to book for herself and Child #1, then just swap Child #1 with Dad, who didn't even book a FP? Basically, does Dad have to reserve a FP to use the rider swap from Mom?

No, they don't need a fp for the second person. When we went last summer it was Grandma, Grandpa, Mom, Dad and son #1. I booked fp for grandma and grandpa on one ride and mom and dad on another. We went to ride #1, showed ds and grandparents rode while dh and I waited then dh and I rode. We then went to ride #2 where dh and I rode while the grandparents waited and then they rode on the swap pass. Neither group ever had fp for the other's ride

FYI, the Rider Switch is for groups with a person that is too short OR is tall enough but doesn't want to ride.

I believe Disney started a new rule a few years ago regarding kids on rides. Under a certain age and they need an adult sitting next to them on the ride. If you fall into this category, I imagine that Disney would allow you to use the rider switch.

If either of them are over age 7 and allowed to ride alone I doubt they would allow you a RS pass for this situation. Your best bet is to book FP for all of you and swap your band with DH so he can use it to ride with the second child. For some rides it won't be an issue as you may be able to fit 3 in a row, or like on Space Mountain you don't sit next to anyone you sit in front of or behind.

1 if you have someone that is not tall enough to ride and have at lest 2 people that can ride you can ask for a ride swap card so 1 person can go on ( or more ) and then when they get off they go over to the non rider and someone watches the child while the person that did not go on can go on with 3 people. they go in the FP line

2 no

3 there will be a date on it I think they all end at the end of the month but if it is very close then it may be the next month.

they will hand you a card that is

just over 2 inches by just under 3 and a half inches it will have some writing on it

it doesn't really matter, I just like to know what to expect. does anyone know which rides follow which protocol?

I think it could change

I would go up to the front of the ride with the too little child and say that you would like a rider swap pass they will either hand you one right there and then or give you something and tell you to hand this to the person that bards your group and that person will then give you a pass

I know Mine train and space mountain give lanyards at the ride entrance. You exchange Them at the fast pass/standby que merge (the second fast pass checkpoint) for the rider swap pass. This prevents abuse (people never getting in the line and coming back with the rider swap later never having waited in the line or used a fast pass).
