On the Liberty Belle the soundtrack explains the origin of the name "Mark Twain", which refers to the two-fathom mark on the stick measuring the depth of the river. The call "Mark Twain!" means at least twelve feet of clear water, which I guess was generally safe running for riverboats.

(BTW the goddess Kali is referred to in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom", though I can't give specifics.)

Although the Rivers of America may seem quite deep, it is only about 7 feet. How can a riverboat like the Liberty Belle float and traverse such shallow water? Well, believe it or not, the Liberty Belle riverboat actually rides along a rail that is attached to the riverbed below. What the water was drained from the river in 1996, maintenance trucks were able to drive around the dry riverbed, with their roofs just reaching what would have been the water line.

The two trains running on it were originally built in between 1915 and 1928, they hauled jute, sugar, hemp and passengers throughout the southernmost jungles of Mexico. After being purchased from the United Railways of Yucatan by Disney scouts, years later, they were disassembled & shipped to the Golf Coast for complete refurbishment. Now each steam engien pulls five open-side passenger cars for a mile and a half tour of the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.
