Ride lockers questions

We'll be carrying a small shoulder bag in the parks for sunscreen, misting fan and other non-valuables. I know at least some of the rides have lockers to stow this kind of thing while we ride. At Busch Gardens and Kings Dominion in Virginia, we just leave this bag by the ride exit when we board. Sometimes they have cubby-holes, sometimes not. In any case, we've never had any problems doing this.

Are the ride lockers at US also at the boarding/exit area? Are there rides that don't have lockers while not allowing bags on the ride? If so, can you just put your bag to the side in relative safety (I know this can always be a risk)? Are there rides that don't allow you to carry anything in the queue? I've already seen people saying that about the FJ ride. And finally, if we do need to get a day locker (hoping to avoid this), does anyone have recommendations as far as locations in US and IOA.

The ride lockers are located near the ride entrance or exit but not the boarding areas. All attractions that require lockers have them available for free somewhere near the attraction entrance. Also...you are not allowed to bring any carry-ons into the queue on those attractions. Getting a day locker is up to you depending on how much stuff you're going to bring. I would keep it at a minimum if possible.

At Universal Studios all of the lockers are free by the attraction they are required for.

I know at IOA we've paid for lockers at the flume ride, jurrasic park and the popeye ride. I'm not sure about hulk and deuling dragons though. I know there are lockers but I'm not sure if they are free or not.

I also wouldn't leave your bag anymore. Nowadays people will alert security when they see an unattended bag.

Hulk and Dragon Challenge require lockers so they are free.

You walk up to the screen. There's usually a screeen for every about 70 lockers or so. Might be a little less than that. You pick the language you want, then you hit that you want to rent a locker. You then scan your finger and it'll assign you a locker number. You open the locker, put your stuff in, close the door, and press the button next to it. That button will lock the locker. You can pull on the door handle to double check that it's locked. I think if you don't press the button, it'd auto-lock after a few seconds or so.

To open it later, you would just do the same thing - pick the language, then hit you want to open a locker, type in the number (if you forget the number, there is a forgot locker number option), scan your finger again, then it'll open it for you. You have to press continue for it to unlock, then it's done.

For rides that require lockers, it's free for a certain amount of time. For example, the wait at MIB today was 20 minutes and the locker free time period was for 40 minutes. If you go over this time period and it's your fault (like you rode more than once or you didn't go straight to the ride) then you have to pay for however long you were gone. It's usually $3 if you come back shortly after. If it's like hours, it'll cost more. For rides that don't require lockers but have lockers nearby, you have to pay to use them. It's usually best to hold your stuff, but you may not want some of your things to get wet on the water rides.

Hmmm . My fingerprints don't register in scanners - I had an incident where I grabbed a metal cooking pot with both hands a couple of years back, and though my fingers are fine my prints haven't worked since. Any key lockers?

I'm sure you can find some kind of fanny pack that isn't too disgusting! Lululemon has some really cute ones that you can use as a normal purse or change it to go around your waist. They are called travel pooches.

So you could take a fanny pack on any of the rides with you? I made my first ever visit to US for just a couple of days this past May and was surprised when I had to put my little Vera Bradley mini hipster in the lockers. It was cross body, very small and flat (all I had in it was a small camera, cell phone, and ID.

Wow, what a great, thorough reply!

Tip: when you press the screen for options, tap with your fingernail. It registered much more quickly than tapping with the fleshy pad on your finger.

Also, we got burned once by using the "free locker" we did go thru the queue right away and only rode once but when we came out, we had an $8 (?) charge to pay...wasn't happy about that.

On the rides where no bags are allowed, there were TMs at the entrance stopping everyone with a bag saying it couldn't be brought on, turning riders back. If no bags are allowed on, you can't bring even a slim bag to cram in the seats.

We were pleasantly surprised at how great US was - have a fab trip!
