Ride in steering house on Mark Twain?

Two years ago the kids were allowed to ride up with the captain on the Mark Twain. CM's said it was up to the captain to let them up. The girls had a blast spinning the wheel, blowing the horn and ringing the bell. They really thought they were steering it and talked about it for days after.

Last year CM's told us they were not allowing anyone up any longer. This month we're taking an 8yr old who has never been to Disneyland before. She would get a thrill to go up. Anyone know if they are allowing it this year again?

As of last September they were allowing it again (I was told it was because of an accident with a guest and an extra little door had to be added as a safety precaution). It was fun to get to do it myself.

We were able to do this in mid-December. The CM said that only he was supposed to ring the bell, but he even let DS do that. My DH is a longtime Disneyland fan, and he didn't know that anyone could ask to pilot the MT. He was very impressed with my "inside knowledge."

We did this just a couple of weeks ago. You just need to find the CM who will be piloting the next run and be the first to ask him/her. We usually ask right when we go to the gate (holding area) and if we are lucky enough to find the right person, they will tell us to wait for them by the door of the wheelhouse. If you can't find the right CM there, just go up to the wheelhouse door and wait there to see if you can find who will be taking the next run.

When we have done this, our kids have been able to steer, ring the bell and blow the whistle. The pilot will tell you when each needs to be done, and how many times
