Ride Breakdowns

We were on Test Track on Dec. 3 when it broke down due to loss of power. Disney has it's own power source and, apparently, it's not unusual for a turbine to go down occasionally. The breakdown happened just before our car was to go outside. It was actually kind of neat to get a behind the scenes look when the lights came on and we walked quite a ways to get back to the lower level to exit. Two cars got stuck outside on a tilt...very glad we weren't in one of those. :earseek:

Disney only generates about 1/3rd or less of the power it uses. Even so, if one of their turbines goes down, there is no impact on any system due to protective relaying.

On test track, its much more likely that the breakdown was caused by one of the cars getting out of position (as in distance between leading and trailing cars) and causing a cascade failure that shut down the ride.

On our October trip, I went by myself on Tower of Terror while dh watched the kids. We went through the ride ok and then after we dropped it all went quiet and dark. Sat there about 10 minutes in the dark and then lights came on but still didn't move. Out came an engineer who was pushing buttons and radioing people. We would move back and tiny bit and then forward. This went on for about 45 minutes until we finally moved all the way back and turned to the doors. Why they couldn't just let us out when the lights went on, i'm not sure... sercurity reasons I am sure.

Funny ride glitch story:

When we did KTTK tour our guide said that one time she was getting ready to take her tour group on the HM. When the walked to the entrance the CM said they couldn't ride b/c they were having problems w/the sound. The tour guide asked what kind of problems and the CM said that the It's a Small World music was playing in the Haunted Mansion!

Can you imagine being on that ride?? :rotfl2: Our tour guide said there are CM's in the Utilidors that make sure all the music in the MK is timed perfectly, but sometimes they can have a glitch.

Kali River Rapids broke down for just a short time when i was on it in September. It was stuck on the climb up but started again and everything was fine.

The breakdowns were the most irritating thing to us. We left on the 5th. It was wonderful because we didn't leave the resort until 3. We woke up, got our luggage picked up and had breakfast with Cinerella at 9:50. By about 10:45 we were done. We gave ourselves until one to play in the parks. We went to BTMR to get FP before we ate. We go back to use them and the ride is shutdown. Well, out fastpasses were from the DVC, and we could use each card twice, and we wasted one on BTMR. We asked the CM if there was any way to get them back, and they said no. So, we were all ready to head back to a different park, when I decided that was just silly timewise. We rode Splash Mountain (with FP that we had to stand and wait 20 minutes to use) and then we took the train to Toontown so DD could see Minnie Mouse. My DH and DD8 walked to Space Mountain to ride that one more time. Well, they get over there and Space Mountain is down. So, DH went to City Hall and complained. Not that the rides were down, but that they were down, and we wasted our fastpasses and they wouldn't do anything about it. They gave him two certificates good for a fastpass to any ride. Each was good for four people. The only bad thing was that it was too late for us to use them. We did have time to go on BTMR, which was finally running again, and then we had to leave. We gave away the complimentary passes to other families. Glad we could make somone else happy. So, essentially, we were in the park for 3 hours (minus one hour for breakfast) and got to ride two rides. So much for a relaxing, magical last day.

I'm sure if it would have been in the middle of our trip it woudln't have been such a big deal. But it was our last day and time was a factor for us. We understand the rides being down, but not that they wouldn't give us our fast passes back. There was a guy in a suit by BTMR, and I'm pretty sure that he had one of those little yellow pads to give away fast passes.

We were stuck on Spaceship Earth on Friday, Dec. 2 for what seemed like a long time. However, when we got off, it looked like there were a lot of disabled people (there was a large group of people in wheel chairs/ecv's who seemed to be together) who had needed to board the ride and made the stop necessary.

We were also there 12/2-12/10, We had are whole famliy on Splash when it brokr down on 12/3 we were stuck just before the last drop into the river boat. My DW,DS,DD and my self also got stuck on the TTC on 12/6 for 15 min.

My fear is being stuck in the "hot" room on TT. I don't deal with heat well.
Me Too! the last trip we met with lots of breakdowns, and the TT car stopped in the heat room for like a minute, I literally almaost had a panic attack- no reason, just the shoulder thing was so tight, and I felt like I couldn't breathe- I was so glad when we kept going, but now I don't want to go back on-don't know why this freaked me out-from now on, I always try to keep wiggle room in the harness, so I can move if ride stops... :earboy2:

I guess we lucked out, we were there 11/24-12/2 and we had no breakdowns

We were on Winnie the Pooh a few years ago. We stopped fior about 20 mins. They kept telling us to stay seated. and the lights came on. We went through the rest of the ride with no sound or music just the normal room lights. It was kinda neat because you could see how small the rooms are and what makes some of the stuff work. After we got off the ride was shut down for a few hours.

We were there from 11/27-12/4 and we didn't have to many issues going on. There were a few rides that stopped here and there from what I presumed was to load handicapped guests. The only ride that we did have problems with was TT. We were there on two different days and both days the ride stopped. It was usually only for a few, but still it was often. While in line waiting one time, the ride stopped at least 3 times. And once we were on it, it stopped right after we were outside and just coming back in. That was for quite a few minutes. We were told that there was a new car that was throwing things off. OH, and I too would have had major issue if we got stuck in the "hot" room. UGH!
