Ride breakdowns?

Reading another thread got me wondering how often the rides breakdown to where people have to be walked off or worse evacuated with assistance.

I read a claim that Peter Pan breaks down weekly requiring the fire department to rescue all the riders, it got me wondering. I personally have never seen any rides evacuated in all my trips but of course I do know it happens. But weekly???

Obviiously anything isn't 100% safe including Disney but I can't imagine WDW operating a ride that has a failure of that severity on a regular basis. Our Easter trip includes a family member that would not be easy to evacuate from any ride especially a ride like Peter Pan. I never thought twice about the safety of her riding until reading that thread.

Anyone know how I can find out more about this "rumor"?

I have been to the World probably 15 times, for 4 or 5 days each, and have never had to be escorted off a ride. I have never sat on a ride for more than a few minutes (I assume to load someone who needs extra assistance) or run across a ride that was closed due to technical difficulties. Maybe I have been extra lucky.

I've been there many, many times and I've only been evacuated once...from the Universe of Energy, of all places!!!! Apparently someone decided, after the CM's spiel, that 45 minutes WAS too long of a ride, and tried to get out in one of the other theaters just as our vehicles were exiting the dinosaur scene...shut the whole ride down and CMs had to come manually open our doors and direct us carefully down the 8-inch drop to the floor. :confused3

Really, they don't break down that often. (exception: Test Track. It always seems to have difficulties--apparently due to the complexity of the ride vehicles)

During our first night of our 2005 trip, we got "stuck" on PotC for over 30 minutes. A CM pushed our boat to the nearest exit and we disembarked. They gave us a fastpass to use on any ride at MK for the inconvenience.

Two years ago we got escorted off the Transit Authority after sitting in pitch dark for awhile. Today Peter Pan broke down but I didn't see any Firemen.

Many trips to WDW and never had the misfortune of getting escorted off that we can remember. Have had to turn around in line or wait until the ride comes back up on occasion. 2x at DL the last being just this past month off of POC. Winnie the Pooh being the other. for as many times as we have visited both parks Disney has a pretty good track record. Test Track could be an exception.
3x in one day at SF MagicMountain in 95 degree heat! That was really brutal.
(The SF MM workers were horrible in handling the situations. :furious: Another story for another time.)

We go for a week every year and have never had to be escorted off by the fire department either. The person that wrote about all the evacuations also thinks he's going to catch a harmful disease while a mother breastfeeds her baby on a ride.

Went went last Feb. and got stuck in the Figment ride for over 40 min. Then we went the beginning of Oct. and just as we were about to get on Winnie the Pooh, it broke down. The same day the Thunder Mountain ride broke down and people had to be evacuated from that. But considering how much they run it really isn't surprising they break down

We've only been evacuated from Universe of Energy.

As for Peter Pan. That just doesn't sound logical. I really don't think they would keep a ride open that required the fire department to come weekly. I can't see Disney wasting firemen's precious time. :confused3

Last Christmas morning the MK was hit with a power outage. Yes, one of the busiest days of the year. We got stuck on Buzz and had to be escorted off. We sat in complete darkness for about 15 minutes until CMs with flashlights came and escorted us off. The funny thing was that only the cars and the lights were affected, we could still hear the mechanical arms and such of the ride still operating out there in the darkness. When we got outside we found out that all the rides were shut down, making it quite crowded on the paths around MK.
All in all a very memorable experience

I've been stuck many times, the worst was about an hour on Splash Mountain, with all the lights on, and the music too.

Once we rode IASW at the very end of the night and they had already turned off the music and turned up the lights. It was so creepy, all you could hear was my 3 yo dd singing "It's a small world after all" over and over again.
:rotfl:

Was stuck on Small World for about 15 minutes. I think the boat ramp malfunctioned.
Last year Splash Mountain malfunctioned and we sat in our boat about 15 minutes while they re-booted the ride.
Only evacuation was on Living with the Land. We had to disembark the boat in one of the greenhouses.

I agree about Peter Pan - They would shut the ride down and fix it before letting it keep breaking down like that.

The only ride that I have seen in my several trips to WDW breakdown on a semi-regular basis was test track... always seems like there is a problem with that ride... other than that I haven't seen anything else breakdown.

Never escorted off a ride, but seems like everytime I'm on Spaceship Earth "my time machine vehicle has to make an unscheduled stop" (In the same exact place every time! Right where the CINEMA thing is with the telephone operators!)
Ride that have stopped while on through the years of going to DW:
Spaceship Earth
Haunted Mansion
Buzz Lightyear
Test Track
Small World :scared1:

Remember, that when rides stop for a shorter period of time, it is to allow wheelchairs to board the ride.

We were stuck on PotC for about 20 minutes once, DS (6) didn't like the dark and got scared and still doesn't like the ride. I had "Yo Ho" going through my head for the next few hours.

DD15 was on Rock N Roller Coaster a couple of weeks ago when it stopped right before the loop. They sat there for a little while with all the lights on, then were escorted out. Apparently one of the restraints wasn't completely locked. She said it was a really neat experience and all the CM's were great. They did get FP's to ride it again.

Did the Reedy Creek Fire Dept have to come with their ladders? :lmao:
Were any breastfeeding infants harmed? :lmao:

Our trip last September, we got stuck on Test Track in the cold chamber. And let me tell you, it was freezing!!! My husband got out the camcorder and taped it and got me sitting there shivering with goose bumps all over my arms. We still had a blast though. When we got off, we jumped right back in line and rode it again, that time with no breakdowns. I'd rather get stuck on a Disney ride then anywhere else.
