There is a great new excursion at Castaway Cay...a jet ski tour!! Hubby did it this weekend and just loved it. Not a lot of people know about it yet, so he was the only one in his group! There are tours throughout the day, with the first one at 9:45 a.m. Two guides take the group out to the mangroves and a sandbar, with two stops to talk about the island ecosystem. It is so new that it is not in the computer system yet, so I think right now it can only be booked on board, but that should change soon. Hubby highly recommends this one!

Wow! That sounds really fantastic. I think I'll do that one! Thanks for the info.:D

That sounds wonderful. Do you remember how much it cost? How old do you have to be to go? Thanks!

That's fantastic! DW keeps asking if there are any jetski excursions and it couldn't be better for her than at Castaway Cay!

Barb,
Would love to hear more details about this new excusrion. Are there any age restrictions?

By popular request, here is the description direct from the shore excursion sheet:
Personal Watercraft Eco Tour (50 minutes)
$95 Single, $160 Double
Get to know Castaway Cay like a native! A knowledgeable guide will take you on a fascinating eco adventure via personal watercraft as you learn about the area's abundant marine life, unique ecology, and storied history. First, your guide will lead the way to a scenic area amid the mangroves, where you'll learn about Castaway Cay's intriguing ecosystem. Then, off to a second point of interest, where your guide will describe the colorful history of the Bahamas and the unique island marine life. You may ride either singly or in pairs on this exciting journey. It is recommended to wear water shoes or sandals, as well as eyeglass straps. Riders will board watercraft from the water.
To ride, you must be at least 8 years old. To drive, you must be at least 18 years old, or, if you are 16 or 17 years old and wish to drive, you must obtain authorization from a parent or guardian.
Times: 9:45, 10:30, 11:15, 12:00, 1:00, 1:45, and 2:45.
Hubby adds that the guides are very knowledgeable, and the highlight for him was stopping on a sandbar and having his photo taken holding a crab! We'll post it when we get it scanned. He said that you don't get to go full throttle, as they are very safety conscious and it is a family excursion.

That one sounds very cool!

We did something similar on a waverunner tour of the coast of haiti in Labadee on RCCL. The funnest excursion we've ever done but we did get to go full throttle for a lot of the time. There were 10 runners. They asked who wanted to go balls out and who wanted to meander and then listed you 1-10. You had to stay so many yards back from the next runner and it was sooooooo much fun. This excursion was VERY popular and sold out quickly. I think if this one stays, it's going to be one that you will have to call on the dot at your 60 days out to book. My little man won't be able to ride:( but that's ok. He can go to Scuttles Cove or two of the three of us can stagger times. I'll definitley be dialing in for this one or making it a priority to book asap on board. DH can go stand in that line:p

That is totally up my DH alley. He would love that. I bet by the time we sail next year, it'll be very popular and might need to book that ahead of time. Would be fun for us to do with DD's 12 & 10, but pricey for a family of four (320?)

I would do this for sure if they gave you free time to zoom around by yourself for a while (away from the snorklers and swimmers of course) That would be wonderful. :sunny:

We also did this on RCL and the first thing we said when we finished was that Disney needs these at Cataway It was a blast.

Yes, this one sounds like fun! I would love to try this one too!

See, this is what I dread! I hope they never permit jet ski rentals at Castaway Cay....we call them lake gnats here. A guided tour sounds like it could be fun.....as long as they keep them far away from the adult beach. The annoying buzz of the motor would send me over the edge in my quest for pure relaxation!

I don't know about the adult beach, but I did not hear the jet skis from the family beach at all. I don't think you'd hear them at Serenity Bay either, based on hubby's description of where they take you.

I wouldnt want to be trying to relax in the sand and hear them either, but maybe they could guide us further out away from the beach.

Thanks for the post. When I told my DD(18) about this, she jumped at it. She just declared her major in college which is conservation ecology and biology, so this is right up her alley. DH decided he wants to go also. I tried pre-booking with DCL for our 5/27/04 cruise, but was told that it can only be reserved once on board the Wonder. Maybe because it's still on a trial basis.

Thanks Barb that is great news since we hit CC in two days. We did the jet skis in KW and loved them. I am going down to the shore excursion desk right now and see if we can book it.

LeiLani, let me know how you like it if you do it, and also if you have a larger group!
I am a wimp and wanted hubby to try it first, which is why I didn't join him. Now I regret now going...if I had know it would be just him and me with the guides, I would have jumped at the chance.
He got his photos developed so we will be posting them soon. He is so proud of holding that crab!
