when i started lurking on this board it was rich that brought out my madness. He was the one who would challenge all who spoke out about OKW ...I joined dvc when okw was still the disney vacation club resort .. we thought it was great .. we were the only one.. then came all the rest .. I think rich was very pro okw and i was too .. sorry.. I still believe, and he did too that the first was the best . I am going to miss that jerk. But he made this stuff fun fun fun fun... damn the rooms are still the biggest at OKW..dave:wave2: :wave2: :wave2: :wave2: :wave2: :wave2:

Yeah....but in all his preaching he still couldn't convince me to dislike my long hallways and small rooms at BWV.....:sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

God Bless

I will miss rich also. Who will keep the limits down on how many you can stuff in a room?

I wonder if he ever actually rode a bus at OKW.

Tigger

Biggest villas, lowest dues, less points, OKW the best.....yes, Rich, I agreed with you about our beloved OKW!

Such sad and shocking news.........<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_9_7.gif' border=0></a>

Perhaps the resort name should be changed to Rich Key West (RKW) in his honor. ::yes::

Remeber how he could get a beer out of the fridge at BCV or BWV from the patio!

That one always struck me as really funny and yet did not put me on the defensive

Cheers

I knew Richy from the DB mostly and we always went toe to toe. I enjoyed arguing with him. He started a thread once on the DB that was one of the funniest threads ever on the DIS although I guess if you weren't a member of the DB it didn't make much sense.....

I really will miss him.

If nothing else at least now he knows for sure whether the Pisos really did write the bible.....

OKW has lost it's biggest advocat. I guess I'll have to step up to the plate. ;) Rich will be greatly missed. So sad for his young family.

That's a true Rich classic there! :)

Rich certainly knew how to project his passion on these Boards with wit, a unique charm and a certain amount of defiance.

Before I joined DVC and the DIS it was his comments about OKW that rekindled our interest in that resort. He brought back the vivid memories of what we liked so much when we first toured a decade prior.

Even though we also bought at BCV, I still chuckle when I stroll down the hallways or navigate the kitchen. It is truly all about cost, size, dues, points and value at OKW!

Do you think they would name a street for him at OKW?

dave....nice thread...thanks! :)

While Rich was a "rule is a rule" guy (see occupancy and towel threads), he certainly had no shortage of wry wit.

It took me a while to recognize his style....one of the first posts of his that I remember was about guides at DVC. People were talking about their guides, and many of them were gushing about them. And someone mentioned that his/her guide had said something to them that wasn't 100% true.

Rich's post was something along these lines:

"Don't call them guides. They're sales people. And they're liars."

I think Rich truly enjoyed the shock value of his posts, and I'll admit I was sometimes concerned when he was the first one to respond to a newbie! Someone would have their first ever DIS post asking about the various DVC resorts, and just like clockwork, there was Rich with

"You'll want to buy at OKW. Biggest rooms, lowest fees and you park right next to the door. Some would say they're the only true DVC resort!"

I can't help but laugh even as I type this.

We'll miss ya Rich. :)

wdwstar...thanks for posting that link. Some Rich classic lines there:

The HDTV is great, when is it going to happen? Why are they only putting it in OKW for the first few years?

Wow, OKW rooms and HDTV, its gonna be great.

You would have thought they would be putting it into BWV first, seeing as how close you have to sit to the TV.....

And then I read this comment from Rich, and it was truly heartwrenching:

My daughter is nearly fifteen, it won't be long before my wife and I will be empty nesters.

It's really hard to believe he's gone, isn't it?

Wow...

The DIS is like my little online family. It is weird to think someone from our community is gone. :(

Whenever a screenname that is around alot is then suddenly gone, I always worry.

It was kind of Lisa to let us know, she must have known how much he enjoyed the DIS.

Did he make it known that he was sick? Was it cancer? I'll miss him too.

I can't say for sure, but somewhere in the back of my mind is the idea that Rich had heart surgery or a heart attack a few years back. I *swear* I read a post by him right after describing what he'd gone through ....

Anyone else?

DisnEeyore, your recollection is correct... wasn't it a heart surgery? I've wondered all day if it was related to his passing, I still can't believe it, he's such a DVC Icon for those of us that have been here for years and years (and maybe for newbies too I don't know....)

Chris

I had reread that same quote about Rich's dd being nearly 15, and them having an empty nest. I thought the same thing.

How awful.

42..... Seems so young. I see 42 and I think My grandmother is 87. So less than half of that......
