My dbf has two interviews - a phone interview in Richmond, VA today and a personal interview in Montpelier, VT next friday.
He is having a hard time getting a job here in CT and is now looking out of state.

Can someone give me plusses and minuses of each as well as a good place to send my dd to school (she is going to be 8 soon) in each?

Much appreciated.....

Richmond pluses:

*A long day's drive to WDW
*King's Dominion amusement park
*Close enough to do day trips to DC, Williamsburg, VA Beach, Luray Caverns, Jamestown, historic plantation tours, etc
*Easy drive to the Outer Banks

Wow- very different choices!

Don't forget the weather aspect- very hot and humid this time of year in VA but such a lovely long spring. VT on the other hand, Spring is a short season but the falls are wonderful and if you are a snow lover, lots of skiing oppotunities.

A move to VT would be a bit more rural- or could be if you weren't living right in Montpelier proper- lots of open rolling space for an 8 year old to roam.

Regarding schools- I do have family just outside of Montpelier and are choosing to send their kids the Waldorf route- I think it is called the Orchard Valley School in East Montpelier. Their choice of Waldorf has more to do with my nephews learning style rather than a flaw with the Montpelier schools. My sister in law's sister and family live right in Montpelier and love it.

Burlington, VT is just 45 minutes up Route 89 so you can fly most anywhere from Burlington International Airport.

We are in the southwest corner of NH and spend quite a lot of time in VT. I think this part of the world is a great place to raise kids.

Of course if you are use to lots of conveniences- high speed internet, malls just a few minutes away, lots of cell phone coverage- Montpelier might be an adjustment.

Good luck!

Richmond is a great city to live in. You have most conviences of a major city without the hassles of traffic, ridiculous housing costs, and high property taxes. Pretty much every school outside of the city is great (Hanover, Henrico, Chesterfield Counties). You are two hours from DC, 2.5 hours from Baltimore, two hours from Va Beach, 1 hr from Williamsburg, 1 hour from Charlottesville, 2.5 hours from Raleigh/Durham, 6 hours from NYC, and the halfway point between Boston and Atlanta.
