From today's Richmond paper --

AirTran Airways is expected to announce today the start of daily service here by mid-June. The Florida-based airline plans to begin nonstop service to Atlanta, and flights to Philadelphia that go on to Boston, sources familiar with the deal said.

It also will introduce direct flights to Orlando, Fla., by mid-November, according to the sources.

The flight times and fares could be posted by the time the Capital Region Airport Commission holds a 10:30 a.m. news conference at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.

This is great news! Air fare to and from Richmond is among the highest in the nation, so this can only help bring down fares overall.

:cool1: I am beyond excited!!! It would be nice not to have to drive to Newport News, Norfolk and DC.

Thanks Matthew!! I saw this on the news, but didn't know if/when they'd be flying to Orlando. We've driven the last 2 years, but may reconsider flying.
