Blimey that's a real shock. Can't say I was ever a fan of his but that's really sudden and he was only 61.

I only heard this on the news this morning as I was driving to the Gym I knew he was ill but I had no idea it was so serious

It's very sad news. I don't watch countdown much these days, although it was daily viewing during my time as a student. He will be much missed

I think it starts hitting home when your children's teachers are not only younger than you but you are OLD enough to be THEIR mother!

My winter afternoons sat with a cuppa watching Countdown (using all my fingers and toes for the numbers games) will definitely not be the same.
And what will poor Carol do.

It was quite spooky really, cos I was only reading about him in the paper yesterday evening and they said there he was slowly recovering from the pneumonia, but had had to have heart surgery.

I believe he was diabetic too for many years - perhaps his body had just decided time was up.

Terribly sad.
