Richard Hammond critically injured

I heard that the neurolgy department was involved in treatment, and just hope it doesn't mean permanenant brain damage, poor guy, hope he gets better soon :grouphug:

I can only imagine that because his family don't want to say exactly what's wrong that it looks that way, Claire. Terribly sad :sad2:

It say's on the bbc news website he suffers a brain injury.
Terrible, hope he pulls through this terrible accident and makes a full recovery.

I heard about the brain injury; Come on Hamster!!! :wizard: pixiedust:

I hope someone in the BBC gets fired for this..

Supposidly James May was supposed to be driving that day... Makes you think about fate a little huh?

EDIT: Supposidly, the Stig was also going to be in it. Also, BBC staff were supposidly trying to push for quickness a lot with the car...

I'd hate to be in their shoes about now...

Not sure what you guys make of it, but according to sky news the Hospital said that they hope he'll make a "Good" recovery. Hate to say it, but they may be keeping something...

They say there is no internal bleeding; that's good...

As I say before, come on Hamster!! :wizard:

I'm actually shocked - just found out he's a friend of my brother in law.

My BIL is a mechanic/rally car driver, apparently they went to a fair few events together, including annual car races. He's understandably rather upset.

It does sound, from the words the news presenters etc are carefully using that he wont make a full recovery as such, altough I hope that it's just his family wanting privacy rather than keeping a worse scenario back

This mornings reports say that doctors are 'optimistic' for a good recovery. Shame thet didn't say 'full' recovery, but its looking a bit better.
fingers crossed

It say's he's out of intensive care and now on high dependency unit, hopefully that's a good sign.

That's good news.

My MIL was in intensive care with a brain trauma, she was moved into HDU, there for 2 days, then on a regualr ward!!

Hopefully he'll have a speedy recovery...

Terrible news about he hamster, I so hope he gets to as healthy as he can be soon

was so looking forward to seeing him when i go watch Top Gear being filmed in november

Hope he gets better and well enough to get back on our screens, he has a fantastic rapor with the other guys on the program and definitely make the show a giggle to watch.

At least he is alive and the improvement shown in just a few days is fantastic so i have no doubt he'll be as right as he possibly can. Feelings go out to his family too!

I had the most horrible dream last night; I dreamt that the BBC headline this morning read "Richard Hammond dies aged 36". I have never had a nightmare so bad before!!

I heard about the fact he got moved up to stable; I think that is great! Then again, with my "experience" with brain injuries (i.e. 5 minutes of wikipedia last night; I don't have brain injuries thank you very much, it's just how I act. :teeth: ) I sorta guessed that Hamster would be OK; despite my friends thinking he'd be good to die.. Just a matter of looking at a couple of facts:

  1. (And this is the most obvious one) He's not dead. Nor is his brain (You can tell by the fact he's still breathing). If he got out of the car without this, the rest is going to be easy.
  2. No Coma, nor is he in a vegitative state. In fact, he was just about able to keep conscious throughout.
  3. No internal bleeding; Very good sign!
  4. It also appears that his sub-consious is still intact too; he managed to smile when Clarkson said his driving was rubbish this morning..

My prognosis is that provided the recouperation stage goes OK, Hamster should be a-OK. Maybe a little brain damage here or there, but at least he is still functional. Then again, I'm not really a Doctor, so best keep him in your thoughts; people's love always helps in times of need. :goodvibes

I have said it before, and I am going to say it again:

:cheer2: :cheer2: COME ON HAMSTER!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

EDIT: Just wanted to point out my re-edited signiture...

JM said in a press interview that Hamster is OK; nothing more than a Black eye and a bump or two here or there. He's not speaking much, but apparantly it's enough for a quick convo.

His wife and Clarkson at still at his bed.. Bless..

According to The Sun this morning Richard has started walking again. As usual it is an overly dramatic report but it seems things are looking good for Richard.

I feel really tempted to send Hamster a message (under "disboards.com's UK Community Board" of course. :) ); just parnoid I may say something really bad inadvertadly

If someone could write it I'll send it for ya. :)
