Episode 1 - The saga begins.........
Cast of characters-
Me age 28
DH age 24
DS age 2 1/2
Well the day started with a early wake up- 4:30 AM (we had a flight at 7:30 ).
After an uneventful trip to the airport we departed for MCO (on time no less!).
We arrived in MCO went to baggage claim and therewas Tiffany Towncar! It was Darcy and I Was relieved to know that it was someone who had so many great reviews! We chatted all the way to AKL, about the hotel, and other small talk.
It was about 10:45 when we walked into the lobby of AKL. I was blown away! It was so much better that any photos i had seen, and i had thought they were great until that moment. It was one of those things tht you just had to stop and take it all in. The lobby was deserted so we walked up to the desk and checked in. Our rooms were available and we went right up.
Now, let me say this - I DID NOT get the area that i requested, and at first i was a little upset. DH said that it didn't matter, we could still go there and look at that savannah. So we did. Sunset Savannah was not what i expected it to be. It seemed smaller, had less unobstructed views, andno matter when i went there, there were never as many animals as the other savannah. Furthermore, there were these ugly "people corrals" as DH calls them all over Sunset savannah, making the distance from the savannah to the rooms further and the view not as good. So in the end i was kind of glad i didn't get what i had asked for!
Now about the room. We were on the second floor, room 2429, on the Arusha Savannah on Zebra Trail. This was a GREAT room! We had giraffes, Zebras, Wildebeests, Ankole cattle, you name it they were all near our room at least once. There were no trees blocking our view and it seemed to be a prime grazing place for the cattle.Ther room was spotless. We did not have the "ugly" green bedspreads and i was happy for that! We were close to the elevator, and ther was also an outlook with binoculars nearby for guests. We highly recommend this room to anyone!
One thing i have to add, before i close this trip report for the night, is that everyone at the AKL ws so friendly! Even DH noticed it. Everyone from the savannah guides, to the house keepers, to the people at the pool were by far the friendliest people i have even seen at WDW. People would always say hi to us, talk to our son,ask where we had been that day and gave recommendations as to touring the parks.
We decided after the first day that we are going to make AKL our home away from home whenever we are at WDW.
Good night for now, see all of you tommorrow for installment #2-The Miller's Rainy Adventure
