Given the Chris Brown thing, is it really wise and is it hypocritical for her to put out that S & M song?

I agree totally with you the bondage has a level of trust and consent, the people involved know that the other isn't going to do anything to "hurt" them. however, beating someone in the face, that's a whole different story.

Nah, because it's her CHOICE to sing about those things, so she's in control. It's not the same as getting a beating from an angry boyfriend.

I don't particularly like the song, but only because of the sexual nature.

Now if she starts singing "I love the way I get beat to a pulp while I'm fearing my boyfriend", then I think she's a hypocrite and a wackadoo.

I was in the car a couple of days ago and DD 9 asked me to 'turn up the radio, I like this song'. It was the first time I'd heard it and the first thing that went through my head was "God I hope she doesn't ask why does Rhiana likes whips?" What the heck is with performers these days...is shock value the only way to sell records?!?!? Guess I'm getting old!

Ok, here's one for discussion. What about the song she sings with Eminem, where she says "Just gonna stand here and watch me cry, but it's alright because I like the way you lie. Just gonna stand here and watch me burn, but it's alright because I like the way it hurts, I love the way it hurts". And it's a song about a violent boyfriend. Hmmm...

I think she's not meaning she really likes it, but that she's just being a sarcastic smartbutt to the violent guy. But either way, not good.

And wasn't her very first hit song about taking out a gun and killing someone?

Ok, she has violence issues. What a shame because I love her voice.

I actually like the song and for the record its "chains and whips excite me" the other way around was a bumper sticker from the 80's

DD 12 did ask me last week what S&M was so I explained. We moved on, then over the weekend my very conservative DH heard the song, DD and I were singing along.....He raised his eyebrows but chose not to say anything

That song got me to talk to DD about domestic abuse and violence. I *think* that might have been part of the point of recording that song; raising awareness.

BTW, I love, love that song and I love her solo version of it lots too.

I was going to say, I don't think the target audience for Rhianna (or many pop/rock/rap stars) is the 2-7 year old crowd. So I never really understand that argument.

This song is not the same thing as domestic abuse. They are totally different situations.

Even though the song is about a preference and not abuse, it doesn't seem like a smart move to me.

I know the two aren't equated however. She's the artist, though, and I'm glad to see she is personally doing better after the Chris Brown incident.
