RFID door locks at AoA

This is very cool. I hope it has enough range to work through a backpack. Your hands are always full of something, no more fumbling around for the card to swipe.

Remember it is the same technology they were testing at Epcot some months ago with regards to RFID and park tickets. Same idea.

My first thought when I read this earlier today was "How far away do you have to be in order for the door to unlock?" Could you just walk by an say the card is in your pocket or backpack like you mentioned and the sensor will pick it up and your door will unlock, or does the car have to be waved literally right in front of the sensor in order to work. I guess time will tell.

They have a system like this onboard the Dream and you pretty much have to touch the card to the sensor.

We have a system like this where I work and you have to hold the card near the pad for it to work.

Could someone clarify something for me? With the RFID system, does it unlock and open the door, or just unlock the door? From what I was reading, I can't tell which.

It would just unlock them.
