I have a rather spirited (meant in the most loving, way  :) ) 6yo. We've done small reward charts with him before where the payoff has been a small prize (little game, etc). I'm thinking about doing something similar to that, but thinking up various rewards, mostly time spent with a parent. Can be either going somewhere, having friends over or a small prize, but I don't want it to be too materialistic. I'm looking for some ideas of things to do with him that he can choose between.

I've thought of:

A day with one of his parents to Washington DC or Baltimore to go to a museum, science center, or aquarium

A day at one of our local pools (not the community pool, but the nice one with a water slide, etc)

A day at a local park with a picnic lunch--can invite a friend

A morning a a nearby lake to rent a rowboat

A game night

A trip to Jimmy Cone for an ice cream cone

Movie at a movie theater

Rent a movie from the video store and invite a friend to watch it

What other ideas can you think of? Thanks!

We are doing this with dD. We let her pick what she wants to do, we didnt ever make a list for her. She came up with mini golfing this last time. The time before she wanted to go to chuck e cheese.

You could go camping at a Yogi bear, or go to a waterpark. Dd loves to go horseback riding.

How many days does she have to "behave" before she gets her reward?

My mom always uses McDonalds as a good behavior treat for my little sister. One with a play place. Then while my sister plays mom will sit and drink a cup of coffee and do cross word puzzles for an hour or two.

ok i tryed, hard, i even closed this thread and walked away, its not working, i have to say it, i cannot resist anylonger.

give him a couple bucks to buy ice cream.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: OK, you actually made me laugh out loud. Glad my kids were in the other room so they didn't ask me why I was laughing. Good one!

Soccerfreak--that's a win/win for your mom, too!

I've seen this work for long car trips so you can adjust it. Pick an amount lets say 7 bucks a week, every day he is good he keeps his money. Days he does not do well he loses a dollar. He gets a warning. You can say the money is for the trip etc. What ever. This way he has a tangible thing he can see. Put it in a clear jar.

How about a visit to Chuck E. Cheese?

LOL, what is torture to me is bliss to him... I'll add Chuck E to my list. :teeth: I don't even know if he remembers going there, it's been so long. :rotfl:

After today he's lucky that I don't believe in beating him! :rotfl: OMG, maybe he's in Disney letdown or he's still tired from the trip, but he's been so whiney. Driving me crazy!

I like the ideas you listed. I have a DS (6) who is very hard to motivate. If he's not interested it's almost impossible (although he is potty trained :teeth: ) I did have one suggestion to add. Have a slumber party (you or dh or both) in the den with movie, popcorn, etc. We use a blow up matress(I usually end up on the couch). He really likes to do this. I think I will use some of your suggestions!
