Since I had the chance to show a couple of beautiful ladies from Hong Kong around Universal, I decided they'd like to see the E.T. attraction.

Honestly I hadn't been on it for several years, although I dont know why. Its not the most thrilling or longest ride in the park, but from the moment you step into the redwood forest, this attraction is still one of the best quality ever made IMO.

It still has moments you won't find on any other rides. Yes, it is in some ways like a larger, modern version of Peter Pan but still has its own uniqueness to it. Even the jeeps driving up toward you still gives me chills...its so well done.

I hope this attraction doesn't suffer the same fate as the one in Hollywood, its still a very special one.

I do wish E.T. said the names better at the end of the ride, since most people are still confused about the whole thing.

We always ride ET everyday when we are there. It is still a family favourite.

When I first went on E.T. (when it was brand new), I thought it was SO cool that he said my name at the end. That first experience of telling them your name and holding the cards and not knowing why... then hearing ET say everyone's name in our group... amazing.

When I took my son for his first ride back in May, he told them his name... but I didn't tell him why we were holding the cards. I wanted his first experience to be like mine was.

We got to the end of the ride and ET said, "Bye Snorfus, Mollenk, Jublema, Cranackel, etc."

Okay, maybe that's not EXACTLY what he said, but it was close.

Joshua asked me if ET was trying to speak Swahili. (He learned to count to 10 in Swahili in Pre-K and now he thinks anything he doesn't understand is maybe that language.)

Sometimes the sound works really well and sometimes...not so much.

Thanks for the belly laugh!! I'm serious, I think about it and start laughing all over again.

Just for the record, I had the same complaint and apologetically told first-timer friends, before we rode, that ET used to say names but that now it was garbled. Then lo' and behold ET said all our names loud and crystal clear. It was such a surprise, they loved the ride!

I'm glad you got a chuckle. :goodvibes

I've been on it several times over the years and when it works perfectly, its a beautiful thing.

I remember at least one time where they substituted "friend" if ET couldn't get the name out. So when our car went by, it was "Bye Mom, Dad, Friend, Friend, Friend..."

I still love the ride no matter what. Just waiting in line is a neat experience, with the lighting and mist and smells.

I love the ET ride also. Most of the times that I have ridden it, I could hear my name. The times I couldn't I just attributed it to a "drinking problem" either ET had been partying too much or me.

One time we tried all giving the same name to make sure we heard it. Well, ET decided he only needed to say it once. It was a very sad day.

ET is a relaxing ride and so colorful

a few years back they changed the police scene
removed the guns and replaced them with walkie talkies.

yea like that would be better........

Because then they couldn't shoot ET, they could just hunt him down and... talk to each other about him?

we went uso in early june this year and it was only our second time there and the previous visit we never rode it but this time we gave it a whirl due to the fact i read on other sites about the scents you smelled while in the que line and have to admit the ride was ok and actually my ds wanted to ride it agian but decied my nose couldn't handel it a second time and don't know why but it was strong odor in there.
oh well maybe i am just getting too old:rotfl2:
