What are your preferences? Last visit we stayed at the Quality Inn. Although the hotel was not good (would not recommend), I loved being within walking distance to the entrance.

What are your reviews on the Howard Johnson? What others would you recommend?

I've been researching the same question. Although I have not stayed at any of these, the Carousel, Best Western Park Place Inn, and Tropicana all sound like good, safe choices. And the HOJO is always popular around here.

I booked at the Best Western because their mini-suite has 2 queen beds and a pullout couch. We are only 4, but might be six when the time comes, so this way I won't have to try and find a 2nd room. There is also a significant discount if you pay in full 21 days in advance.

THis looks like a nice place. Do you know if there is any other way to book a room then through their site? I can not find them on Getawaytoday or expedia.

My favorite is the Candy Cane Inn. It's within walking distance but also has a shuttle, there's a pretty good free breakfast, free parking and they did a good job making the hotel look nice. Here's a review with pictures that my sister posted after her visit last summer: ]

I've stayed at CCI. The shuttle was nice. Breakfast was bagel kinda stuff. This time I was deciding between the Carousel Inn and the Fairfield Inn. I chose Fairfield because most of the reviews were better. We have stayed at the Anaheim plaza- I don't really recommend them because there is no shuttle and that is quite a long block. Yes you will be walking already, so why add to it?

I'm pretty sure you can only book directly through them but they do have a AAA discount. I don't know if they're still doing this but they were giving a coupon for your next stay when you check out. I believe it was for $10 off per night and you can use it on top of AAA discount.

Our favories in order are
HoJo
CCI
Tropicana
BWPPI
Anaheim Plaza
These are the places we've stayed that we consider walking distance. The walk from the HoJo, CCI & AP are about the same, it's not a long block at all imo. It takes our family of 4 about 5 minutes to do it in the morning, more like 7 at night but it's worth it. :)
HoJo has a GREAT staff (seriously, only second to the staff at the Disney hotels we've stayed at, GCH & PPH), nice rooms, comfy beds and the killer Ent Rate!!!!! They have the pool and the play area for the kids, the kids love the play area. That's our first choice EVERY time. Only drawback for the HoJo....no free bfast, but for rates as low as $59 a night for a double room with a fridge, I'll bring my own bfast. :) HoJo also has FREE parking!!!!!!!

CCI has a really good staff, FREE shuttle, FREE bfast (that's higher quality bfast then many other free bfasts at area hotels), nice rooms. Easily walkable in the mornings and we took the free shuttle home at night. :) I can't remember if we paid to park or not but I don't think we did.......

Tropicana was nice, free bfast (wasn't impressive tho), nice staff, nice pool area with a HUGE hot tub to soak your tired feet in. BEST part of the Trop is how close it is to the crosswalk to get to the parks. It's the second closest!! :) I think they also offer free parking, but honestly we haven't stayed there for a couple years, we did our second, third and fourth stays at the Trop but we then discovered the HoJo and switched our loyalties. :)

BWPPI, we only stayed here one night, the room was nice, staff was very nice and friendly (we check at 1 am and they were so nice to us), free bfast at Captain Kidd's but NOT CK's food, which is the only reason we actually ate the free bfast! lol CK's is HORRIBLE whatever you do don't eat there, unless it's the free bfast from BWPPI! The best part of this hotel was it's literally the closest you can get to the crosswalk, the walk is tiny. I can't remember if parking was free or not.

Anaheim Plaza, the best part of this hotel was the rate, we paid $59 a night over a weekend. The room was HUGE, there was a small balcony outside, pets were allowed (we didn't take our dogs). No free bfast, and there was a parking fee of $4 per day. Staff was friendly, the walk was fine. My biggest complaint about the AP was the water temp did not stay consistent, during every shower I took the temp. fluctuated from what I set it at to hot to cold, I never froze or scalded but it was not comfortable. However, that did ensure I took quick showers so we did get to the parks faster! LOL :)

We would stay again at any of the listed hotels.

A friend of mine stays at, and loves, the Anabella. She walks through the Grand to get to the park. We are looking to stay there next month. They have some good deals and really nice rooms. http://www.anabellahotel.com/index.cfm

We just stayed there last week in a mission suite and LOVED it. Their people are wonderful, very helpful and the rooms are large and clean and my DS6 Colton Loved having his own room. The beds were super comfy but remember we slept in them after hauling around Disney ALL day so maybe we were really tired? (just kidding) The walk through the GC lobby was pleasant and not too long even for DS6 in the morning but we did take the ART which drops off in front of the restaurant next door home at night a couple of times. They also had a fireplace in the lobby which while not as grand as the one in the GC was much less crowded. The granite tile in the bathroom feels really good on your bare feet after a long day walking too.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. How important do you feel a breakfast is?

We are going with a HUGE group from our family.

6 different families with 2-4 kids each. I am doing most of the planning and keep getting requests for a hotel with breakfast. I loved the look of the HoJo last time I was there and it would be my first choice if it was not for the breakfast.

We always stay @ the Hilton Anaheim and we just love it!! They always have great deals too. We are staying there in July. They are in walking distance and also has a tram to andfrom Disney for a couple dollars a person.

On the issue of breakfast...

We stay at Hojo. I always pack some muffins and poptarts and run to the "gift" shop for juice and milk. The rooms all have Kuerig coffee makers, so I bring my own k-cups from home.

Hojo also has Mimis Restaurant with great breakfasts and baked goods. Get on their mailing list for terrific coupons.

We also hit the Main Street bakery some days for a cinnamon roll, etc.

I am loyal to Ramada Inn Maingate. We did stay at the Carosuel once and the room we got was smaller than what we got at the Ramada and it was about the same cost.

I will admit on this last trip we got a room that needed so remodeling but it was all cosmetic. The room was still clean, the staff was friendly and everything was just great.

Couple things I like about the Ramada

Coin Laundry
Free Wifi
Free fridge and micro in each room
Mini mart on grounds
couple food courts
Free breakfast

On the topic of the free breakfast it's not gourmet but I am not huge into breakfast but I do and my kids need something to get us going and last till snack time. If nothing else you can eat toast and take a piece of fruit these you cannot mess up.

We love the Fairfield, have stayed there 2 times so far. We also stayed one night at the Ho Jo, and that is very nice too, just a bit farther from the park. In between them is Mimi's, which is one of my favorites restaurants! The Fairfield will hold your bags in a locked room if you get there early, they have free lime/lemon ice water in the lobby (great when you are tired and come back from all that walking) and they have 2 queens and a small pull out chair in the rooms, a roomy vanity area, refrigerator and more!

Here's some beautiful flowers outside the Fairfield:

We always stay at Anaheim Desert Inn & Suites. Love the 12 person suite! Be there in April for spring break, can't wait!

This is what we normally do. If we stay at a hotel with a bfast we do try to eat some of it, the problem is most of the free bfasts are just not very good. Old fruit, old pastries, no bagels (which 1 bagel can fill me up until lunch!) limited things to drink. But when we stay at the HoJo we just take muffins, fruit, juice and then we will eat at Mimi's or Millie's once or twice. Bfast is important but it's not a deal breaker for a hotel for us.
