Hi All -
I will get all my reviews done, I will, I will....
This past trip 10/3-10/12 was our 4th visit to Whispering Canyon Cafe. It was a surprise, last minute visit on a Saturday evening after a day at the parks and because DD adores WL from our previous stays there and considers it "home". We were walk-ins, got seated in about 45 minutes in the farthest section back, almost by the pin stand and the DVC sales desk - oh - and the fireplace. It was just a bit quieter than the big room and I was thrilled.
What was strange is that they presented us, and left us, with the lunch menus for a good ten minutes, told us we could order off the lunch menu if we wanted... I was thinking I had to pay adult prices for DS (13)at this point and needed kid-type options. There were burgers on the lunch menu - but I noticed that the skillet was about $8 less than on the dinner menu I'd looked at outside. When our CM came back - and it is hard to tell here with all the joking that goes on - she said - sure you can order! - I laughed with her about the prices, saying I MUCH preferred to order lunch! In a few minutes she came back, whisked away the lunch menus, saying they had a whole box of the wrong ones made up, and replaced them with the correct dinner menus.
Shenanigans followed, but them again - you can't tell and I decided to take it in good humor as say it was WCC silliness. They brought DBF a kids' size drink, and DS the normal sized one - when I pointed this out, she brought DBF a QUART - yard of Diet Coke!! He thought it was hysterical and though we both worked on it for the rest of the meal, we couldn't make a dent!!
DBF ordered the vegetable stew, and they brought him vegetable soup( a soup choice, not an entree) in error. DS ordered the grilled chicken and pasta - switched with mom when my skillet came. DD began to turn INTO chicken strips but she was thrilled to be at WL and ran off to the pin lady for some more pin education as soon as she finished, since we could keep an eye on her from the table.
I must say, the grilled chicken/pasta was excellent, even better than that dish at CP in MK. DS enjoyed the ribs and potatoes from the skillet, DBF ate the corn and the sausage and I guess I ate some pulled pork.(Yes, yes - understood you are not supposed to share). All was yummy.
Why the heck we ordered the apple dessert after all that, I don't know - hey, it's vacation! - but our CM informed me that it had been changed from my previous visit, but was still very good. No comparision. This new one had a very "processed" taste. I think I have a pic of the old version somewhere on my PC - it was THAT good - and I don't take pix of food as a rule! LOL!
I did have to ask her to remove the charge for the vegetable soup from the check - yes, they had charged for it, too, even though we didn't order it - she admitted they were sometimes "confused" - again, all in good humor..
My kids stayed playing at the Lego table after dinner while I sat in the lobby and meditated awhile - if you have not taken the time to soak in WL, do so - and enjoy a meal at WCC. It's fun, it's loud, the food is more than adequate - WDW food! - but the location can't be beat!
