We just returned from our WDW wedding/honeymoon/Christmas trip!!

We did not stay at FW, but we did spent most of Christmas Eve there & I just wanted to share our impressions.

This was our first time visiting the Fort and it did not disappoint-it was our favorite day of our entire trip (aside from our wedding LOL!). We rented a golf cart in the early afternoon and spent a few hours riding around FW, checking everything out. It was so much fun and there was SO much to explore!! I love how the Fort is set up like different "neighborhoods" :) We checked out all the "neighborhoods", the beach, and all of the other fun nooks.

After exploring in the daytime, we headed over to Pioneer Hall for a 4pm HDDR show. It was so much fun!! Far exceeded our expectations (and we were already expecting it to be great!). Our waiter was Rob ("that's Bor spelled backwards" ) and he was great-so funny! Food was great, and the show was fantastic!! They incorporated some Christmas songs as well, which was nice.

After the HDDR, we headed back on our golf cart and rode around checking out all of the amazing Christmas decorations that the campers had set up-they were absolutely amazing! My two favorites were the one that looked like a little duplicate of Osbourne Family Lights and the camper that had a scene set up of Mickey & Minnie sitting by a fireplace. We rode around for hours, also stopped by the Christmas song sing-a-long, and then easily dropped off our golf cart when we were done, and headed back to our resort, WL.

The entire visit was so much fun and we will definitely be back to stay there next time!!:goodvibes

Congrats to the newly married, :goodvibes
Glad ya'll had a great Fort experience, now ya'll need'a RV and come for your first anniversary.

Welcome back minniebride! :bride:

Glad to hear your trip to WDW and your day at the Fort went well. Sounds like you saw it all just about. Hope you noted what loops you liked so you can request them when you come stay next time.

HDDR is fabulous as advertised and fun for children "of all ages". I don't say this too loudly but although HDDR is a little pricey, I think it represents an excellant value at Disney. A great show, good food, bottomless beer, tax, and tip all included - one of the few great values left.

See ya 'round the Fort.

Thank you!! It really was the most fun day of our honeymoon!:goodvibes

You know the one thing we did not see that I was looking for, were the old railroad tracks from the steam train that used to run through there. Where are those located?

Congratulations. :bride: So glad you got to spend some time and enjoy The Fort. The Fort sure does have a "home" feel. Whether in the cabins or tent or RV. Although I do love the WL too. I hope you get to go back soon.

The RXR ties are a bit hidden. You need to go behind the loops and a bit into overgrowth to see them. You can see the somewhat hills tho. Do you remember the hill that went thru the dog run? That was where track use to be.

You know the one thing we did not see that I was looking for, were the old railroad tracks from the steam train that used to run through there. Where are those located?

Most (but not all) of the track and ties were taken up years and years ago. Some ties were left in place (like behind 700 loop). There is gravel in odd places that were between the ties. As Denise says, the tracks were, in some places, on a raised berm which are still discernable. Disney has built some sidewalks on top of where the tracks went so you don't see any of the old bits and pieces. There is still some rail that hasn't been pulled up in the woods and brambles of the Fort. I've posted pictures of them here on the DIS in old trip reports. So there are clues there. Key is knowing where to look and what to look for. A few old spikes followed me home too. (They are smaller than real spikes).

As a matter of fact, on my next visit this spring my "To Do" list includes looking for some more rail. Accessability is an issue but I've got an idea to overcome it. We shall see. I'll post a trip report of course. :woohoo:

Thanks, as this thread became a reminder for me! I forgot that I took some railroad track pics back in October. I posted a new thread
