I sailed on the Wish with my mom and DS (7) on a 3 day cruise beginning August 12. This was my 5th Disney cruise, having previously sailed on the Magic, Wonder, and Dream. Wanted to give my impressions about the current state of the ship and entertainment.
The Ship: Stunning. You know how it is the first time you enter Magic Kingdom and walk down Main Street and you get overcome with emotion because it’s so amazing? I felt that way about the Wish. I teared up several times. I think the ship is miles more beautiful than the other ships, which I love but never had that reaction to.
The Stateroom: Beautiful. We stayed in room 6106, which is a handicapped accessible room. It was about 50% bigger than rooms in the same stateroom category. I did miss having a split bathroom and a bathtub as those features are not in the accessible room. I’ve seen on the boards a lot of complaints about the lack of drawers. I do like to unpack and so not having drawers was not ideal. However, there was a fair amount of closet space and the shelves are bigger than they look. I was able to stack my packing cubes on them and they looked tidy enough. I’ve also seen a lot of complaints about the cooling drawer, but I liked it. I thought it kept our drinks cold enough. The room attendant provided excellent service.
MDR Dining: I loved all three restaurants. All three had A+ theming. I really enjoyed the food at all three. I’ve seen a lot of complaints about the Marvel show, but I thought it was fine. My son enjoyed pushing the buttons. He enjoyed the characters that came out at the end, and the pretend oversized food. I actually thought the Frozen show was a little odd in that the original characters didn’t sing the songs. I couldn’t understand the reason for that and didn’t think it worked very well. The fiddler was great. He could be featured even more. It was hard to see the stage from most seats in the venue. There was no Olaf appearance. I think they need to go back to the drawing board with the Frozen show. The idea of a wedding celebration is a good one, but it didn’t feel like a wedding celebration. The nonalcoholic “Ink and Paint” drink in 1921 was disgusting.
Quick Service Dining: Loved Marcelina Market. The Donald’s Cantina tacos were surprisingly mediocre but maybe as a Texan I’m just used to better TexMex. Everyone else seems to love them. We ordered room service late on two evenings and two mornings, and it was great. I wish Cabanas were open for a late night snack. We had the early dinner and I would get hungry late in the evenings.
Spa: Had a massage. Didn’t get to see anything else in the spa. Massage was fine.
Tangled Salon: Booked a treatment wanting an eyelash treatment, but somehow the system changed it to a hair treatment, which I didn’t want. They didn’t have a price list or description of their hair services, which I found off putting. They let me cancel this treatment. I came back later for a pedicure. The pedicure was fine.
Live Shows: Loved them both. However, I can see what people are talking about when they mention a high school quality to the Little Mermaid show. It’s not the singing that’s amateurish, but just a couple of the actors didn’t act that well. The theater was beautiful. No problem finding seats about 25 minutes before the shows.
Movie theaters: both were open. They were beautiful. Didn’t have time to see any movies.
Pools: Loved the multiple family pools! Much better than my experience on the Dream where the pool and pool deck seemed overcrowded. I didn’t go to the adult pool but I did walk through on the first day. It was crowded but not completely full. My son loved the Aqua Mouse and said it was his favorite thing about the ship. He also loved the smaller body slide.
Kids Clubs: Themed spaces were an A+. My son especially loved the ride simulator but it seemed like he had to wait a long time to use it and only got to do it a couple of times.
Shops: I think Mickey’s Mainsail is adequately sized. There was a VERY long line early the first day, but after that there was never a line. Some of the other boutiques had cute higher end Disney merchandise and were very popular. The watch store seemed like a waste of space.
Hyperspace Lounge: Loved the theming but hated the drinks. My nonalcoholic drink tasted medicinal and yet also too sweet. My son had the ice cream drink option and also hated it. Complete waste of money.
Enchante Brunch: A-. This was fine but it could have been better. The space is beautiful. I had read something that indicated champagne is included but that is not the case. They have no elevated nonalcoholic options.
Layout and Condition of Ship: I think they now have the ship marked pretty well so it’s clear where you can and can’t go. I think they’ve also fixed whatever was incomplete on prior voyages. I did see some trim on the grand stairway that needs to be finished, but that was the only place where something looked unfinished to me. I liked the two elevator banks and felt like I spent less time waiting for elevators than on other ships with three smaller sets of elevators. I thought the bottom decks of the ship were easier to navigate than the upper decks but I eventually did get the hang of it.
Overall, I can’t wait to go again! Three days was not enough.
