My daughter and I ate lunch at Mythos last week. It was excellent for a theme park restaurant, and pretty good for a restaurant anywhere.

I started with the mushroom soup which was pretty bland. DD12 got the pasta of the day which was a sort of a stacked chicken pad thai. She liked it a lot but I found it too sweet. I had the risotto with asparagus and beef medalions. The rissoto and asparagus were very good. The beef medalions were so tough it was embarassing to be sawing away at them. I only ate a few bites of the beef. DD12 had the chocolate mousse-y dessert shot and enjoyed it. I had the chocolate cake with peanut butter ice cream and bananas in caramel. It was fantastic; DD, although "full", ate quite a bit of it.

I must admit that the service was irritating. I don't like restaurants that send someone out with your food who is not your server and who doesn't know where to bring the food. It's hard to enjoy a nice meal when the server is walking around to every table saying, "Mushroom soup?" and finally gets to me so I can claim it.

Then there's the silverware. You get a knife and one fork. After I claimed my mushroom soup, the server who brought it did notice I didn't have a spoon so he brought me one. But when my dessert arrived, all I had was my rissoto covered fork and the server had already disappeared. I walked over to the silverwear drawer and got myself a fork.

Finally, I know that Mythos is crowded, but I hate to be rushed. The server brought us our check while we were finishing our entrees. I said we wanted dessert. After a few minutes, he brought around a tray of the dessert shots. I said I wanted something off the menu. He was very clearly trying to hurry us out of there.

So....food, pretty good. Service...could use some improvement.

Hi Missypie, thanks for the review.

I'm still up in the air about Mythos. I've never been and I was thinking of going on my upcoming trip. The review was a big help.

Hi Missypie, thanks for the review.

If you are going at a hot, crowded time, I'd definitely go for it. It is nice to have a peaceful, sit down meal in the middle of a hot, hectic theme park day.

The last time we were at Universal Studios (probably 2004) late Nov/early Dec we had the absolutely best meal of our lives. The chef was cooking a dish that he was going to serve on New Years Eve and was practicing. There were 4 available that day and DH and I took 2. It was probably the best meal I have ever had and DH and I still talk about it to this day. Of course, my family laughs at me when we talk about it

When we were there in February we ate there twice. I had the mushroom soup one day with a caesar salad. It was very nice! Not your typical thick creamy soup, but very nice. Out of all the places we ate, including Tchoup Chop and The Islands, it was by far the best. Sal's Deli was a very close second.

Sorry to hear you had a less than perfect experience at my favoriue restaurant.

For future reference, if you find fault with anything at Mythos, let your server know. I know for a fact that the chefs don't want tough meat being served top customers. There's a good chance they'll take back the offending dish and replace it.

Thanks for the review!

We've eaten at Mythos more times than we can count, and we do find the service hit or miss the last year or so. And I think I know exactly who you're talking about with regard to the rushed service.

Even with the hit or miss service, we love the meals here. We've never had anything to comment negatively. I remember when they unveiled the pork with blueberries, pistachios and bleu cheese during blueberry month last year, and, like a PP poster talked about, it was one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth. My server could be throwing the check at me intermingled with senseless beatings, and I'd return happily for that dish.

Are reservations necessary for Mythos?

I would say definitely, if you are going at a busy time. Or you could eat early. We were there the Tuesday before Easter. The park was not terribly crowded. We got there at about 12:20 for 12:30 reservations. There were a few tables open. When we left (around 1:15 pm), the waiting areas were PACKED!
