Ok I am listening to Pete's review of Caribbean Beach and I can't help but laugh about the Pirate beds. They had a box spring and no mattress?? I looked at the pictures they have posted in the review and it's true!

What's funny is there is a super easy solution for the Pirate beds. Low profile box springs!!! I have them for my bed at home since we have a tall mattress and I am very short so I need it to sit lower. Instead of making the mattress thinner make the box springs thinner!

Yes, like many platform or bunk beds.

I can't imagine why Disney hasn't been proactive and solve this. I guess people are so tired after a day at the parks that they don't even notice.

Maybe it is a mattress with no box spring? That would make more sense.

Wow - I have not heard this but I hope they are comfortable. We are staying there in September. We stayed in Jamica at CBR in January and the beds there are not very comfortable either:confused3

I can't seem to find the pictures of the Pirate Bed "mattresses" can someone post a link?

We are booked into the Pirate Rooms in December and I want to show my family what they will be sleeping on so they can decide if they still want pirate rooms. I don't want to be the fall guy when we go to sleep our first night and they discover the beds are uncomfortable.

I appreciate the link. We are traveling with my sister and her family and my sister can be very irritable if she doesn't get a good nights sleep.

I stayed in a pirate room in December and didn't notice any problem with the beds. I don't really remember looking at the mattress, but I am pretty certain I would have noticed that much of the box spring sticking out. It's possible the box spring was covered in our room and I didn't notice. If they sheeted the box spring and the mattress I am sure I would have not noticed.

Both the mattress and box spring are sheeted, so you wouldn't really notice from a visual standpoint. But boy would I notice from a comfort standpoint!

I will stick with CSR for the queen beds tyvm!

We stayed in the Pirate rooms at CBR in September. We also noticed the pad/boxsprings thing that Pete spoke about. Honestly we had no issues with the beds. Were they 5* luxury comfortable? Of course not! But they weren't ungodly 'OMG I can't sleep uncomfortable' either. I have back problems and commented to my wife about 1/2 through the trip that this was one of the few vacations we'd been on that my lower back wasn't killing me after 2-3 nights. I think it was because the bed was a little stiff (we have a stiff mattress at home) due to the pad/boxsprings issue. IMO, this is definitely NOT a reason to change rooms...especially if you have little ones with you who will LOVE the theme and decor! The darkness of the room and decor was worse to me than the bed.

Not sure if you've listened to the podcast, but Pete also mentioned that the room was filthy, dusty, and there was a piece of clothing left on the bathtub. It's kind of scary that these rooms are neglected long enough for lots of dirt and dust to accumulate... blech.

The mattress reminds me of the ikea crib mattress I just bought for my baby. I was worried about the support for him and he is under 20 pounds, I couldn't imagine as a grown person sleeping on that.

My worst sleep in a hotel was last Christmas. I had trouble sleeping and when I woke up my back hurt so bad, like I had slept on a couch for the night. When I complained, I found out that the box spring was broken, so the bed was sinking. Once they changed the box spring I slept much better. I did get a discount for the room.

Pete - loved your review with video. The video really helps and CBR does look very beautiful. The Pirate room is very dark looking - don't think I would like that.

Stayed once at CBR a while back and loved it. I hope you do more videos with the reviews, it really helps to see through your eyes what you experienced.
Thanks!:thumbsup2

Stayed at CBR last june in the pirate rooms and we had a really nice room and decent matresses but the walk to OPR was like forver to get to.
