Okay so on my trip in December my son wanted to eat at Blue Bayou for his birthday. We NEVER do this because we are the type that wants to get the most out of attractions and sitting down at a fancy restaurant is NEVER part of the equation. Anyway, we decided to go for it since it was his birthday.
I booked an 11:30 ressie because I knew we had a good chance of getting a waterside table for his birthday. This is what he wanted. We checked in at EXACTLY 11:15 and went into the waiting room along with all the others with 11:30 ressies. We waited exactly 15 minutes and then were called. We got that waterside table that we wanted. That was great.
Our waitress introduces herself, takes drink orders and runs off to get those. I am having water because there is no Alcohol on the menu. . .darn. . .lol (by the way, Disneyland has applied for a liquor license for the main park sit down restaurants. . .I found this out while dining at Blue Bayou). Anyway, she is back in a FLASH. . .
We barely get to decide on an appetizer, when voila, our waitress appears to ask us what we want for lunch. We tell her we would LOVE the crab cake appetizer and a bit more time to decide on food. She complies. . .
The crab cake appetizer is AWESOME. . .not to overdone, just lightly fried and VERY tasty. Anyway, when she brings it to the table, we go ahead and order lunch. I order the famous Monte Cristo, my son orders the grilled salmon, and my son's friend orders the Seafood Jambalaya. We get through the crab cake appetizer and more bread and here comes lunch (mind you this is all happening at RECORD pace. They were not being pushy, its just we were some of the very first diners of the day and everyone was on point.).
Food Review:
My monte cristo sandwich was perfectly done and very tasty. HOWEVER, if you are a light eater (and I am), do NOT order this sandwich as you will have MOUNTAINS of leftovers. My son's salmon was done to perfection, tasted wonderful and I was left with the feeling that I should have ordered this. My son's friend's jambayala was AWESOME. . .if I ate rice, this would have been my ultimate choice. It was fabulous. Very tasty, not too spicy and just a great dish all the way around. We all had leftovers except my son (he's a teen, what can I say) so we packaged them up and I took them back to the hotel for snacks later.
The bill:
For the three of us the bill was over $100, without alcohol, but I must say it was the BEST meal I have ever eaten at Disneyland. My son's friend absolutely had to take her leftovers home because we did not eat them that evening. So all in all the food was great, but I would only do lunch there. The dinner menu is very nearly the same (except for the monte cristo) and the prices are higher. For anyone who cares, the Monte Cristo sandwich is $21.95 at lunch and is not served at dinner. It is THE cheapest thing on the menu.
Would I eat there again?
Absolutely, the atmosphere is great, the servers were wonderful, the food was good and its great to get a break outside of the hustle and bustle of the parks. . .by the way, if you are a pin collector, there is a great pin shop just beyond the doors of the Blue Bayou. . .its fantastic. . .they have some really one of a kind pieces there. Oh, I must warn all WDW fanatics who have never been to DLR. . .DLR is more expensive in many ways. . .For instance, when at WDW last August, I bought my son a starter pin set with 5 pins and a lanyard, it cost me about $12. The SAME starter set at DLR is $22. I don't know if its just because its California and the cost of doing business is higher or what, but its astronomical. . .Also, a bottle of water at the parks here is $3.50. I remember a range of prices at WDW which I found to be as reasonable as a 7-11 (convenience store) here in California.
One other thing:
Don't wait till you are here and expect to get in. Make reservations ahead of time. A week ahead is sometimes sufficient. I made my 11:30 ressies for 12/22 only 10 days ahead of time and got exactly what I wanted. Remember, this is not WDW. People don't come here for food. . .lol.
