Mike and I were fighting the crowds at the Magic Kingdom when we decided we needed a lunch break. We had shiny new Quick and Casual Vouchers, and were trying to decide the best way to use them. Mike piped up, What about Beaches and Cream? What a great idea! We were planning on going sometime during the week, and I was getting excited about it. We left the Magic Kingdom and drove over to the Beach Club resort.
We had no problem finding it; we just followed the signs around the pool. We checked in at the podium, and even around 2 pm, there was a 15-20 minute wait. We wandered through the arcade for Mikes benefit, and then sat outside and people-watched the pool area. The wait didnt seem very long, and we went inside to be seated at a table. Inside, there are four benches, six four-person tables, one two-person table, and 14 chairs along the bar. Mike commented that it was very small, but it seemed larger than the reports Id been reading.
Our server arrived, and we pulled out our vouchers and asked her exactly what we could receive with them. She told us that we could have any beverage (including frozen), an entrée, and any dessert except for the Kitchen Sink, of course. We couldnt receive an additional side, even though Id heard of other people receiving sides. We took a minute to peruse the menu, and I decided on a mango smoothie ($3.79), while Mike chose the lime rickey ($2.59). The mango smoothie tasted more like a citrus milkshake, while I like my smoothies light and mostly fruit based. Mikes lime rickey tasted somewhat weak, even after I noticed the green layer at the bottom and stirred it up for him. I think the lime rickey was the only downside of the meal, and he wished he had ordered a milkshake or a flavored Coke/diet Coke.
For our entrees, we decided on what ended up being called a Jazzed Hot Dog, ($5.99 + $0.99 per each topping) according to the receipt sauerkraut, cheese, and chili, for me, and the prime rib sub for Mike ($10.99). We decided to share our sides, and I chose onion rings, and Mike chose the fresh fruit. The hot dog was HUGE, more than enough to share. (We had wanted to have our own meals for the first time that we came here, and after this meal, we will share in the future!) It came with 7-8 onion rings. The hot dog itself was great, and I am a very very picky hot dog eater. The whole mystery meat idea gets to me. The meat was large, almost the size of a sausage. There were a lot of the toppings, just a little too much of the chili and not enough sauerkraut for my taste. Overall it was an excellent hot dog, and something Id order again. I didnt taste Mikes sub, but he really enjoyed it except for the large piece of fat, approximately one inch square, which he wished they had trimmed in the kitchen. He said that the onions and peppers were cooked just right, the amount of provolone cheese was good, and the inside of the sub roll was toasted. Hed order it again, if only for the fact that the prime rib sub alone makes up the entire price of the voucher! He was also sneaking pieces of my hot dog; Im assuming he liked it as well.
We were approaching being full, but we had to order our desserts as well. Ahead of time, I had chosen the Milky Way Sundae ($7.99) and Mike ordered the Fudge Mud Slide ($7.99). They came out in HUGE goblet-style glasses, and each had three scoops of vanilla ice cream. I think next time we might ask if we can change out the flavor of ice cream. My sundae was topped with whipped cream, white and milk chocolate shavings, a piece of a Milky Way candy bar, a small piece of what I assumed was the bundt cake, fudge, and butterscotch, though the butterscotch tasted more like caramel. It had just a beautiful burnt milk taste like caramel is supposed to have. There were gobs of caramel and fudge at the bottom, soaked up by the bundt cake. I was pretty dismayed when Mike asked if I wanted to split them in half, because his sundae wasnt near as good as mine was. It had fudge and a brownie, besides the ice cream and whipped cream, and four Oreo cookies on top. Like a good girlfriend, though, I switched and let Mike have the other half of my outstanding sundae. We only got through about 2/3 to 3/4 of our sundaes, though, before we didnt want to see ice cream again. Next time we go, we will definitely only share one sundae between the two of us.
We received the bill, and our server told us that we only had to sign the vouchers, and everything was covered. We laughed when we saw the total - $46 before tip. Definitely pricey without the vouchers! I think the fact that we saved so much money made the meal that much better. The location of our table could have been better; we wished we had been seated in a booth, especially because there were jukeboxes on the tables of the booths. The tables were crowded together, but not anything like the tables at either the San Angel Inn or at Nine Dragons. Service was great, I didnt catch her name, but she was very patient with our questions about the vouchers, and the food was all brought out very quickly, but not in a rushed fashion.
We definitely will return, but only with vouchers, and possibly only sharing one voucher!
