As Old Key West members, we love trying other DVCs out. This was a wonderful treat for us! It was our 5th wedding anniversary and we were engaged on the beach and the Beach Club, so we'd requested of view of that.
When I made the reservation, the new policy of guaranteed Boardwalk views had not gone into affect, so we were very disappointed with the change and I made my complaints known (though I was very nice about it). We'd borrowed points for the trip and booked preferred view, hoping for a Boardwalk view and the new policy meant we couldn't get that -- and we couldn't move to a lower room because we'd lose the points we borrowed as our use year is February.
Two weeks after I complained, we got our confirmation that we had a Boardwalk view room. I must admit, I felt a little bad thinking that maybe they had bumped others for our vacation. I had no need to be concerned! The room next to ours, also a one-bedroom, was empty the whole time we were there. Our room was empty on Saturday night, so when we checked in Sunday morning at 10 a.m., assuming we'd just be getting our keys so we could call later for the room number, they let us right into our room! And what a room it was -- 3009 in the "Crest O' The Wave" building area. We could see fireworks from Epcot, our beach, the boardwalk.
We loved community hall too! We're avid air hockey players and free games was a great treat. We also love PlayStation and if we'd had more time, I'm sure we would have played a round or two of Mario Golf. I wish Old Key West had some of these features at Community Hall.
We had no problems at all with the room -- the walk was pretty far from the elevators, but there was a stairwell nearby that dropped us out next to the Wyland Gallery. And the view was worth the walk.
While we loved this room for our special occassion, I don't think we'd get Boardwalk view again for a regular trip. The noise was unbelievable, especially when Jellyrolls closed at 2 a.m. It was warm, so people just mulled around on the Boardwalk, talking loudly, two men were wrestling, etc. We just didn't sleep well.
All in all, a fantastic stay though!
