Reusing a Mobile Phone in US

Last July our friends bought a cheap prepay mobile phone when they arrived in Orlando. They've said we can use it this year and we will just need to top up the prepaid calls. I'm worried that nearly 13 months after it was last used it might no longer be usable. It just sounds a bit too simple or am I worrying unnecessarily.

If the US mobile phones are anything like the ones here, then you should be OK. My friend comes over from the States once a year and a few years ago he bought an Orange PAYG sim. Not only has it worked here every time but any left over credit is also still on the card.

Hope this helps,
Andy

Which make of phone do you have?

I think you may find that you will have lost the phone number and any credit you had left on the phone.
But you should still be able to buy new phone credit for it, and you will be given a new number.

Thanks for your answers. I don't know the phone they have but it will have been a cheap one as they were only planning to use it once. If I do need a new number how would I get it?

I have a tracfone, and all you do is either go online and re-activate your phone or phone them up to reactivate it.

Thanks, Paul. I'll find out what they've got and try to sort it out.
